Oftentimes, the cost of living in FL precludes some people

Then they should come to where they are welcome, and always have been, but stop trying to reinvent the wheel and turn the RD into the places they can not afford. This is the true underlying reality of the situation.
    Come, you are welcome.
    Stay, you are welcome.
Do not try to turn this place into the place you decided to flee. This is not welcome.

For how long? A few years back they did quality of life laws. Confiscated speakers from bars, colmados, cars. Outlawed the aholes buying scrap metal or selling veggies from a POD pickup with a POS speaker blaring their annoying sales pitch. How is that working out now?

Screw it, I'm gonna rent in Puerto Rico also and get a drivers license and voters registration card and become a resident and pay no federal income tax. It's still an island in the Caribbean and its US soil.

It's working out great here in Cabarete. One place across the street from me was blasting their music recently and they came out and confiscated their equipment.

I was going to comment upon reading the posting in question (#465), but thought better than to do so. I would not want to be at fault for chasing yet another new enlightening poster away from the discussion.

As one who lived and worked there yes rents and condos are cheaper not cheap unless you want to live in the campo.
And trust me you will pay as much as you would pay in Federal taxes to the PR government and any overpayment won't be refunded.
And food is high as are cars (although not as high as DR)
Lots of Dominicans there but a completely different vibe.

The plus that RD has is the abundance of local produce and meat... keeps costs down IMO

I can't stop thinking how --- what word ? -- arrogant PR was to demand Federal aid when they don't pay into it...

Would have been a good time for the Feds to exercise their middle digit
