Please be careful what you drink on this Island. Hoping this post will not get me banned as is the usual threat. I will not name the outlet unless the great powers on hand permit so. >>I went to a Casino in Santo Domingo two days ago.....a place I went to frequently a few years ago happily. The place opened and closed many times since.......I do not mind losing my money, but the beer was terrible, the wine tasted like terpentine and a Sambuca I finally ordered in desperation tasted horribly. The government here themselves are warning about false liquor......just be careful out there!

I've never had a good drink in a casino anywhere.

The old Quinto Cenario......and also the Sheraton on the Ave. Washington were great normally.......good snacks....good drinks....but, that was many moons ago.

That is funny you bring this up. I actually heard some Dominicans here in the states say how they never order any high end liquor in DR because they change it or add stuff to cheap stuff to make it taste like the premium stuff. I don't know how true this is or how rampant it is if it so happens to be true. A little scary I might say.

We have stayed in several resorts and have never had tampered drinks. The bars are usually so busy that you quite often see them opening new bottles.
Maybe we were just lucky but never had a problem.

Well, I was not referring to resorts as I think that's a whole new ballgame...sort of speak. I was talking about local spots like clubs and so on. I would assume that resorts are pretty safe-they wouldn't want the bad publicity.

I have heard guys complain about buying from certain colmados and not getting the real stuff. I don't drink hard liquor so I wouldn't know as it all taste like crap to me. My wife's brother always buy from the duty free when he comes from the states. Same with most of her other relatives and they all say it's because of the fake stuff, so it must be that, plus the price.

One of the reasons "Servicios" are so popular in Bars (Drinks... oh how I hate that name)

You get a sealed bottle of liquor, some sodas and a bucket of ice with plastic cups.

When Leo told me there was a new “Drink” on our beach, I didn’t have a clue what it meant.  I thought he mis-translated a word, lol. I agree, weird.

Very advisable to see what you are being served. A few feet away from where I was in the Casino is the Hotel Bar.....perfect service and perfect drinks (going there for 14 years now)........But the low life casino getting their "paint thinner" from a back room dungeon can cause some serious damage........Even the DR government puts out ads with warnings.......

I have PURCHASED shots of Hennessy Cognac at differentsmaller resorts. I try to explain to them that they have watered down the drink...Nay says they... never!
Caca Toro.... I am a big fan of Hennessy Cognac VSOP and any other one they make..... I know my cognac! Says eye!

THis last ''Fake Cognac'' takes the prize ! You could pour back a double and not even know it was cognac. The label was worn and the color was very light; much lighter than Hennessy VSOP.
As a result I shall no longer patronize such small resorts... and if I do so; I shall be taking my own Cognac with me.

I wonder if we just look stupid or we actually are!
