Immigration did a door to door sweep last night in Padre Granero, Puerto Plata. They packed two trucks full and called it a night. Apparently, there were Hatians climbing walls and hiding where they could. Previously, immigration was a 9 to 5 day job, so everybody felt comfortable in their homes after 5.

Its great that Immigration got off their lazy backsides and are actually doing something. if only we could convince AMET to work past 5 in the afternoon the roads might get a bit safer.

And what happened when they knocked on your door? Did you show them your papers? Passport? Entry stamps?

Passed three checkpoints between Monte cristi and Santiago yesterday. Stopped at one...guy looked in through the window with a flashlight about as bright as the ass end of a horny love bug, and said to go with God..

Camión in front of me got a chassis inspection with the lovebug light but didn't have to open the rear.

Building maintenance guy is back in Haiti with his sick wife, not sure if it's related to the Crack down but I don't like his Haitian replacement. New guy doesn't turn on the stair way lights or mop the stairs as often.

Without a court order specifying name and address no LE can enter a property in question. Why would anyone even talk to them and/or open the door to their house/apartment without one? One thing is if you are in a public place (street, road, etc.) and another completely one is any LE entering your property. The law does not allow anyone to do the latter without the appropriate court order, unless there is a crime in progress.

I saw my first immigration round up back in 2012.
I'm curious, who said any of this was fabricated?

Yes, the other thread... is full of 'non believers'...
just go read a few pages

The attitude is - if it hasn't happened to me , it's not happening
i think it's tongue in cheek sarcastic remark referring to other thread regarding immigration issues of non-residents.

Thank you

Insert 'never ending' between other & thread

hahaha

Cabarete
Night time Haitian roundups have been going on in Cabarete/Sosua for years. I don't know about other places.

trouble posting... I get no spaces/paragraphs

two more <spaces> / [paragraph] indeed, the sky is falling faster
than I can say....gay porn and malware a.k.a. the <backdoor> virus
will ruin your hard drive faster than an immigration officer can
deport an overstayer. ERROR. :cheeky:

Easy Rubio -- you'll scare people

They say all this stuff is fabricated...
rounding up illegals

William, let me try to write this clearly so "maybe" you will understand. Those of us that say their is fabrication are talking about GRINGOS NOT HAITIANS (or more recently Venezuelanos) being rounded up.
Hopefully you can understand the difference but after myself and others trying to explain numerous times I have little confidence that you will either understand and/or retain the difference.

I have never seen night time round ups in the Bavaro/ PC area. I have seen the Policia National round up putas that are not paying the weekly propina but that's about it.

In 2008 the cops rounded up the Haitians close to my house in Juan Dolio, they even shot a couple of times but fortunately didn't hit anybody.
The reason for the round up was that the cops had building materials for the station but nobody to build what had to be build and apparently there was no money in the budget left for labor, therefore the round up. ;)

That is perverse enough to be true.

I didn't see the "action" in person. I was in Minneapolis for my daughter's high school graduation. It didn't sound like Immigration people were particularly polite or worried about technical legalities.
