Going after more Japanese tourists, DR to join League of Historical Cities
Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García was in Japan for conversations with the Mayor of Kyoto Daisaku Kadokawa and officers of the city of Kyoto. He announced new agreements with the board of tourism promotion of Kyoto and ANA, the Japanese airline. The Mayor of Kyoto is also the chairperson of the League of Historical Cities.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the Dominican Republic would share its experience in the management of historical city centers and learn from the Kyoto case. Dominican Republic also agreed to seek to seek membership in the League of Historical Cities. 115 cities from 65 countries are member cities of the League of Historical Cities.

During his visit to Japan, García met with officers of the Kyoto tourism promotion office to discuss possible schemes for collaborating in tourism promotion and best practices in the industry. He said he invited the technical team of Kyoto to visit the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) in the Dominican Republic for meetings with the Dominican officers.

While in Japan, García met with officers of All Nippon Airways (ANA), the Japanese airline, to explore possible flights to the Americas. The meeting was to establish bases for increasing connectivity between Japan and the Dominican Republic to increase the number of Japanese visitors.

He also met with representatives of the Japan Tour Operators Association that presented their needs and in which areas the Ministry of Tourism could collaborate to increase the numbers of Japanese tourists to the country.
