great article in local media about a 98 year old golfer from puerto plata. don luis mata started his sport adventures from football, then baseball and finally golf. he counts the story in his own words, from playing in hotel montemar 50 years ago to this schedule today. he mentions trujillo and he talks about the value of sport.

maybe it's nothing much but i enjoyed the story and hope others will feel the same.

Great story! When I read this story yesterday, I imagined he could tell some DR1er BushBaby( Grahame Bush) stories!

Interesting article. He would have been around 10 years old when Trujillo came to power. He lived through the entire Era of Trujillo. Interesting.

Great article, I had it translated then sent it to my older brother he is 57 going on 97. He hasn't played with my brothers(55 & 54) and I (52) this year, complaining he is getting too old.

Seen Mr Mata many times at PD and always wondered how old he is to still be playing. Always dressed to kill on the course, and now he confirms what several of the members would say about him; he's the only golfer in the DR that always scores below his age. Great stuff
