The first time I visited Sosua, High Caribe was the place to be.

After that, I think a place called Classicos was the spot.

The next trip, there was a casino with a club that stayed open late.

After that, I was in a relationship for several years so no more late night wandering.

Now, I single and am wondering what are the hot spots.

Any recommendations? Is Sosua still fun?

Classicos a shell of its former self, rhumba gone, caribe a running joke, passions a restaurant , even Putos is gone. I miss Plutos.

But still a very exciting place. We've now got a 30 bed hospital, 2 large grocery stores , an art gallery , a new beach, an ambulance, a fire truck and every alley to nowhere is paved.

Don’t forget newly repainted “NO PARKING” zones.

It is going exactly as planned?

It's about as exciting as a Kathy Griffen comedy routine. Tired and old

To those that spend any great length of time here, agreed. Those coming from (insert country), probably not so much.

So is it worth the trip?

Honestly, every time I visit the Dominican Republic each trip is worse than the previous.

Corrupt cops, violent neighbors, bad kids.

I think the island is beautiful.
The ladies can be fun.
But I just want to relax and have a good time.

If the nightlife is dead...

I do not know if it will ruin the trip or not.

I try to socialize with the local women (those who do not venture to Sosua for fear they will be seen as prostitutes).

But if Sosua isn’t doing well now I’m guessing the cops are going to be hassling me for money, the attitudes of the people in Sosua may be grumpy, all of this bodes for a poor vacation.

I would hesitate to get advice here. People here are grumpy to begin with and most to do not go downtown hardly at all if ever at night, but they sure like to act like they they know what is going on. People who have been here for a while act like they deserve some sort of respect and a reward for being here so long. Many just are bored with a negative attitude. in my opinion.

Short answer would be no. But then I don't think they had much of a plan to begin with. They just started "trying" different things. Boarding up windows on bars in a Caribbean climate - ridiculous. Policia chasing girls down the street - embarrassing. Arresting gringo bar owners.

I haven't been in there in ages, but I think City Lights or whatever the name is now is fairly busy as a hook up joint.

Wack a mole.

The assumption is you are looking for Disco/Night club? Classicos still has a scene, as does Sosua Lights, if you are looking for casual places to hang out, there are many, Checkpoint, El Conde restaurant, Baileys, Fraggle Rock, and the list goes on...
