The statue of Nicolas OVANDO in Santo Domingo

What to think of a Hitler statue in the Middle of Amsterdam? (And then take over the German Language as a native language)

This statue is a slam in the face for all people in the Dominican in te past, the present and the future.

Nice idea???: To melt it and use the very same bronze & location for a statue of Anacaona & Husband that were killed by Nicolas Ovando.

Why people and the Dominican government did accept this huge statue there in the first place? A great possible next step is the removal of Columbus, finally.

School books should tell the truth about what happened and who was responsible instead of keeping up all of that for tourism.

Nicolás de Ovando is one of the main persons in the building of the city of Santo Domingo. He's basically the founder of the Colonial Zone. No need to move his statue anywhere.

Lets not forget that modern Dominicans are, in essence, the conquerors. Those that lost are long gone and their genes reduced to a minimum. Spanish and African genes make up the bulk of Dominican DNA and ancestors. To pretend that the average Dominican isn't a descendant of the conquistadors is ridiculous at best. The Dominican people are not like the Haitian people, where connections to the French outside of the cultural sphere is negligible, or like the Jamaican people, where again connections to the English outside of the cultural sphere is minimal. In those places statues of the likes of Ovando or Columbus are out of place because they have nothing to do with the people, but not in the DR.

As for Columbus, the DR is probably the only place where Columbus can't be ignored. He was the first governor of the Spanish colony, the founder of a large number of cities that still exist, and a long etc. Nowhere else in the world is the imprint of Columbus greater than in the DR. Columbus stays exactly where he is, statues and all.

Since the Crusades killed so many peope, maybe we should take down all the crosses in all the churches around the world.

This sort of stuff by people who cannot even spell Ovando is absurd. You cannot readjust history. The smoke does not go back into the bottle.

Maybe we should ban the term "moro/moros" from Dominican menus?? I mean, after all, that is a racist term referring to the darker inhabitants of North Africa who invaded Spain, oh, some 1400 or so years ago.....

This sort of stuff is just plain silly..
