I will be staying at the RCI Gold Crown Resort in July. Does anyone have any info/suggestions. We are flying in to Peurto Plata. What is the best mode of transportation from the airport to the resort?

If you are coming on your own, rather than with a group for which the hotel our tour company is providing transportation, you can rent a car at Puerto Plata airport, take a taxi to Samana, which will cost you about US$100, or stay overnight in Puerto Plata or Sosua and take the Caribe Tours bus that goes to Samana each day. It leaves the Puerto Plata terminal at 7am and the Sosua terminal at 7:30 am

Thanks. Any suggestions on where to stay in Sosua? We had planned visiting there anyway. What is the cost of the bus from Sosua to Samana.

Sofy's B&B is easiest

In Puerto Plata, Noelle provides a nice room and a fabulous breakfast. It is in towards town where you are staying, so the Caribe Tour bus station is a bit closer. . 586 6411 is her phone...call her from the airport

If you want to go to Sosua, try Tropix...see another thread on Inexpensive places, right below this one...

Bus fare cost should be less than $6US....Be sure to change your money at an exchange bank, never on the street!!...Lots of exchange places available in either POP or Sosua. Called "Banco" or "Casa de Cambio"... NOT Banca which are betting places...

Good Luck,

HB

The bus fare from Sosua to Samana is about RD$70. Tourism is in the doldroms right now so you can pretty much take your pick on where to stay. There is another thread going right now on places to stay in Sosua that you might look at. Tropix is a very friendly place and is one of the places mentioned in that other thread. It is clean, secure, quiet, and not overly expensive. But isn't on the beach.

If you can specify what you are looking for, I'd suggest posing the question in a new posting with that as its subject. Most of the recent posts have been asking for the best possible value for the money, with no necessity for being on the beach.

Wherever you stay, you'll need to take a taxi to the Caribe Tours bus terminal for the trip to Samana. It is located in old Sosua, which is some distance from the area where the tourist hotels and restaurants are. For cab trips in Sosua, including to Caribe Tours, the charge is RD$50 for the cab.
