By the way, I don't think an expat has ever won any of the giveaways done by Jumbo or any Dominican store chain, but people do win.

The following were the four winners of new Nissan SUVs during Jumbo's Mother's Day campaign.

This one won at the Jumbo Puerto Plata.

That store fronts the Autopista San Isidro. They've also built an access road from the Avenida Ecológica.

Jumbo is probably my favorite store in DR. Most of our shopping is done at La Sirena in San Cristobal, but we make trips to the Jumbo on Luperon in a Santo Domingo from time to time. It’s always packed

maybe it is packed because Santo Domingo has millions of inhabitants. the one in POP is always empty. i have never seen 4 people in a cashier line, whereas in Jose Luis sometimes the lines go down the aisles.

How do prices and selection compare between the two?

I have done Jumbo at Agora and it is OK. The one on Luperon as stated is a packed house. The Jumbo on Churchill nothing really special about that place. My all time favorite is el Nacional on 27 de febrero y lincoln in SD centro.

in POP, Jose Luis is way cheaper than either La Sirena, and Jumbo. people will go to the big stores on sale days, but they are not going to abandon Jose Luis.

I agree with that Nacional, great selection. Same owners as Jumbo. I just hate the traffic congestion and parking there. Plaza Lama has great deals too. My in laws like Bravo, particularly their house brand coffee.

i am in agreement with your in laws about Bravo. they have the best imported products selection, and since i like to bake, i give them props for their flour. Jumbo and La Sirena have nothing to offer, unless you want to blow big dollars..

I have seen the parking lot full one time but usually it is a modest crowd. I go because they have the best apples (better than Playero, Sirena or Super Pola) and they have a good selection of pre-packaged bacon. Can you figure out why La Sirena doesn't sell prepackaged bacon - crazy.

prepackaged bacon costs big money, because it is usually imported, apart from the few local brands, such as Chef. locals are not really big on bacon, so they are not going to tie up big money in packaged bacon.

I know it is pricey but it is my drug if choice and my dog like the grease poured over his kibble as a special treat

I go to Jumbo Luperon on weekends, but I make sure I'm there when the doors open in the morning. I'm the first one in and have the store to myself, as long as I get my shopping done in less than half an hour.

It fills up quick, that's for sure.

My favorite National has always been the one in Arroyo Hondo. A completely different shopping experience than the other ones. The offerings in the deli can be impressive albeit expensive.

As far as giveaways, years ago I won a car in a giveaway at the Isla gas station in Puerto Plata near the supermarket.

I didn't get it though. They told me I was disqualified because I used a rubber stamp to fill out the stubs.
