Can anyone suggest an ear doctor for semi-annual ear cleaning - One who does a thorough job.
Cabarete, Sosua or Puerto Plata.Thanks

And if you do this what is the approximate cost ?

Doc Freddy Salazar does it.

I went to him not too long ago for an eardrum puncture problem and he fixed me up. And I think somebody else wrote on here that he does their cleanings.

I don't think I've ever paid more then a 1000 for anything with Doc Freddy.

If you want a otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) then the only person to go to on the North Coast is Dr. Carlos Burroughs at Bournegal in Puerto Plata. This doctor is fantastic and myself and most of my friends go to him. TEL: 809 586 2342

OK. I'll give him a call today and see if he takes appointments. I hate the walk in and wait half a day routine at Bournigal

I've seen Dr. Carlos Burroughs in Bournegal. Unless there's two docs there with the same name, he's an oftomologo(?).

On the other hand, Dr. Ivan Tavarez(otolaryngologist) at Bournegal did a great job for me.

I didn't look up his specialty (but he treats ears and he's 81 so he's seen a few. He just cleaned my ear and gave me a prescription for ear canal inflammation (cost 2000 pesos ) which seemed steep for 10 minutes time, but cheaper than the US and I only waited 3 minutes in the hall, before getting in.

Does he accept insurance?

I'm sure he does because his receptionist ask if I had it but all I have is Medicare with a Humana supplemental. So it wouldn't work here

He is a double specialist. I questioned that too, but my insurance lists him as a specialist for both vision and ear issues.

There was another physician attending a woman in the adjacent room for vision. Maybe he has a partner that does vision testing

You can clean your ears yourself. There are effective ear drops with a (I think) carbamide peroxide solution that softens and dissolves ear wax; then you easily flush the remains out with warm water and a bulb syringe.

It is much more effective than a doc gouging at your ears with a hard instrument.

It's easy peasy to do.

I wear earplugs when riding motorcycles and clean my ears often. I've done this for years.

I cleaned my ears before seeing an ENT in Santiago about a problem, and the doc was amazed and said even he could not clean ears that well.
