How come Spanish has estar and ser when French has only one, être? And what day did the Italians decide to stop speaking Latin and start speaking Italian?

Don't know the academic answer to that although I know when to use "ser" and "estar" but , why does English have To, Too and Two? And why is "I is" wrong and "I am" right, or is it write, or wright? I be so confused sometimes that I just shakes my head.
