We write/comment often here about our forces and their shortcomings.
Other communities have problems and eventually deal with them.

I wonder if any politcos or sindicos ever read our pages...
Advice here for them

Mexico has more than its share -

Acapulco was a target-

Santiago - Sto Domingo and others -- take note

Did you read the ACA murder rate.... over 10,000 per 100,000 residents

Couldn't all be residents....

RD pales by such comparisons
People here advocate other countries when they hear 100-200 pesos on the roadways to the PN
better places to live....

Mexico ain't on my list !!
And my family were regular/annual visitors to ACA ... every Christmas/New Year...
for decades.....

...WW.....this country could do with a reduction in crime against people living here....forget about the DR police helping you........I was thinking about this just a few days ago, my dream is......like in the cowboy days of the USA when the bad guys were many and police scarce...have a Judge sign a warrant, wanted dead or alive $1000 us dollars bounty paid... let the real professional bounty hunters do the job................Doc.............

This is likely to be a long conversation.

The advice that I give is that when getting pull over, etc just be friendly and offer up some beer money. Think of it as a gringo toll.. I've had some interesting conversations afterward and they are grateful they didn't have to go through the hassle of shaking me down.

Alternatively, and I don't recommend this, but find a nice woman that grew up as a barrio rat and she will argue any policía into the ground. It takes some time but I haven't been allowed to provide a propina in years. I complain that I rather pay then spend the time. But it's against her religion. Now I park in the sun to speed up the process.

The PN here in Santiago move like criminals
with badges. For the people like myself who live here,
you learn to deal with them for what they are.

I have a friend who is a former police officer here in
Santiago. He worked with them for almost a year before
he quit the force. I could fill this thread from top to
bottom with his stories and my personal experiences but
it's not going to change a damn thing so why bother.
I will say this......they are dirty, really dirty.

The article says it is 103 per 100,000 and not over 10,000 per 100,000.

Those theives are lucky they are not in the DR. Here in the DR theives are frequently severely beaten, lynched, and then beheaded by the locals if they are caught.

I returned to Cabrera recently.
They had been having some issues - I heard..
Luckily, I am/was unscathed but there were a raft of petty crime instances - even robberies in daylight.

Well, the world has changed.

The whole police force has been replaced - all new !!

Helmets on motos and the general population is full of praise for the new recruits.

Sometimes , the system actually works....maybe not forever ... but...........

to be continued !!

haha
