Gatsby Dominicana in an alliance with Work Time Creativo is presenting the 3rd Punta Cana Merengue & Fashion Week on Saturday, 3 November 2018 at the Catalonia Bavaro Resort in Punta Cana. Designers from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, United States, Colombia, Italy and Spain will be participating. The event is dedicated to the late Dominican designer Jorge Diep.
Among the designers participating are Wanda Beauchamp, Sabrina Maria and Jose Braulio from Puerto Rico. Joely Alarcon from Venezuela. Rosalva Malandrino from the United States will also be present. Finally, Rosa Lia Design from Italy has also confirmed her participation. And Aliss department store is also participating.
Representing the Dominican Republic are designers Esteban Martinez, Eddy Rambaldy, Felipe de Leon, Juan Francisco Rodríguez. The closing presentation will feature Agatha Ruiz de la Prada from Spain. She will be presenting her spring-summer 2019 collection.
The Catalonia has special deals on hotel stays and a night pass for US$40 per person and US$20 per child that can be purchased at the hotel.

Hacienda Samana Bay on the Samana sea-fronting boardwalks
President Danilo Medina was in Samana on Thursday, 25 October 2018, where he participated in the ground-breaking ceremony for the Hacienda Samana Bay on the Malecón of Samana. The investment is estimated at upwards of US$100 million in its first phase. The property includes a 60-suites condo hotel and a residential unit with 40 apartments – studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms with views of Samana Bay.
Luis Pareja, CEO for the company, said the development encompasses 200,000 square meters of Samana Bay fronting property. Pareja says the property is ideal for international travelers who want to spend their winters in the privileged environment of Samana.

Santo Domingo’s main international airport, the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) is the country’s first to offer a special area for the convenience of breast-feeding mothers. The new hall was opened in mid October 2018 is located in an area open to the general public at the South Terminal. There are four private areas where mothers can feed baby or extract mother’s milk. The facility is fitted with reclining chairs, foot rests, areas for hand washing, and a children’s area. The area is open to both airport employees and traveling public.

Ministry of Tourism approves Samana amphitheater
Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García announced during the 5th Annual Tourism Development Encounter in Samana that the government is open to funding the construction of an amphitheater for the tourist destination. The potential location has not been revealed, but he said plans should be drawn and presented in the near future. "If there is agreement, we immediately can get started on the bidding process for the design and construction of the amphitheater in Samaná. This province has some spectacular conditions to have the most beautiful amphitheater in the Caribbean region," Garcia said in a statement from Mitur.
He announced he would travel to China on 31 October 2018 with the presidential commission to meet with China’s key tourism authorities. President Danilo Medina is scheduled to meet with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Jinping to sign several bilateral agreements. Among the agreements are a tourism cooperation pact and aviation agreement that could turn the Dominican Republic into a leading hub for Chinese tourism to the Americas. García said that two months ago the Ministry of Tourism sent a local marketing expert to China to begin plans for the opening of three tourism promotion offices in China.

A 15-member US-based National Association of Realtors delegation visited real estate projects in Santiago, Jarabacoa, Puerto Plata, Juan Dolio, La Romana and Punta Cana. The visit was a lead up to their participation in the Annual Realtors 2018 convention scheduled for 2-5 November 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. At the NAR Annual Realtors 2018 Convention, the Dominican Republic will be represented by several residential developments.
The delegation also met with Manuel Pacheco, director of tourism investments at Mitur to learn more about the development of real estate projects, statistics, facilities and tax incentives.
"They no longer want to be satisfied with just being tourists. They want to buy properties and be part of the Dominican Republic," Pacheco explained after citing the interest shown by the members of the NAR. Larissa Ortiz, president of NAR in the country, was the local coordinator for the visit.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR), whose member brokers are known as realtors (member agents are known as realtor associates), is a North American trade association [1] for those who work in the real estate industry. It has over 1.1 million members,[2] including NAR's institutes, societies, and councils, involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries. The construction of Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda was announced on 22 October 2018. The resort marks the start of what the company is calling its first “Exclusive Collection Resort” in the Americas. The new resort concept features four boutique villages. Each of the four boutique villages will present its own unique environment, activities and accommodations. The villages include Archipelago and Emerald Jungle (adults only), Caribbean Paradise and Explorer Cove.
Club Med will be the first resort to open in the beach area between Punta Cana and Samana. The site is about an hour and a half drive north of Punta Cana, and a boat ride away from Samana.
The new Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda will be the chain’s biggest project of its type in the Caribbean in the past 40 years. The Club Med’s Exclusive Collection is a brand for premium resorts designed for travelers seeking the finer elements of the all-inclusive resort brand. Company CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean, Xavier Mufraggi said that for years they searched around the Caribbean to find the right property. They decided on Playa Esmeralda, not too far from where Club Med had its start in the Dominican Republic. Club Med was the first resort to open in the Punta Cana area in 1978, back when to get there took around six hours drive from the capital city of Santo Domingo.
"For almost 10 years, our team searched to find the perfect new land in the Caribbean to introduce to our guests. Miches was a natural fit - we found many locals, and even our own employees in Punta Cana, would spend their free days visiting this unspoiled location. We decided to explore this area for ourselves to see what made it so special.
