I read that the government was planning to make all ED drugs attainable by prescription only.. But I cannot find any information on that law going into effect... Any body know if you can still purchase them over the counter in the pharmacy?

Any colmado sells boner enhancement pills without script, ask for a grande with two cups and LaPela!

What the government down here plans to do and what the government down here actually
does are two different or in some cases seven or eight different things :cheeky:
If you have money in this country you can buy whatever you want.

The farmacias stand 'firm' in their commitment to continue to sell boner bon bons. There would be 'stiff' opposition against suspending it.
I suspect old men would 'erect' barricades in the street if the chubby-chicklets were cut off.
Support for any such legislation to require a prescription would be 'flaccid' and any changes to the regulations would be 'hard on' tourism.

Considering they are sold everywhere I believe it is Dominicans that provide the main market. MAMBO is available even in colmados.

I saw a gas station promotion here where you get one La Pela for a fill up free. The system here though is a lot better than the US to me. Need antibiotics, just go to a pharmacy and get them. And many other minor things also.

And the Farcamias will deliver to your house.

As long as you get the right antibiotic, the right dosage, take it for the correct length of time for the result you hope to achieve and the condition is in fact treatable with antibiotics, no real harm.

Use the wrong antibiotic or use one for a condition that is related to a virus then all you do is waste your money and move a little closer to making some bacteria more resistant. Inadvertently killing off all your gut flora can keep you close to a toilet for several days until repopulated, assuming you are smart enough to realize the antibiotic is what has given you the runs and not the disease you are trying to cure and stop taking it.

And that’s the reason there are medical schools. Unless you’ve graduated from one, Best not to self prescribe.

I find it interesting that some people wouldn’t think of trying to service their own car. They always bring it to a mechanic.
And then some people buy antibiotics, etc without ever consulting a doctor.

Plus the fostering of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria.

...The people in the DR that go to the pharmacia and buy 3 or 4 antibiotic pills , to treat a virus....and think thats what cured the virus, are doing the most harm ...my neighbor in the US died from resistant strep infection, took his leg then his life.....

Most people don't know how to adjust a timing belt and they don't have the equipment to do so. Just about anyone can walk into a Farmacia here and ask a primary school dropout what they should be taking for syphilis. Self medicating is kinda like working on your car; If you screw it up you can ruin the engine.

If one understands the types of antibiotics available and which will best address a particular infection, with some careful research they can make an informed decision as to which one. The how much for how long requires access to the manufacture's dosing instructions which are usually only provided directly to physicians or in a pharmacology reference book such as a PDR which is sometimes difficult to understand by the lay person. There are in a lot of instances hurdles put in place by manufacturers to prevent non-doctors from getting easy access to clinical product info and what is easily searchable online may not be the most accurate guidance available.

But hey, feel bad, take a pill... I'm particularly fond of the green ones.

To bring this back to the OP, yeah some people die after taking boner pills, having mixed in some alcohol and some other unrelated medications for good measure. This happens because pills can be had just for buying gasoline apparently. Short term antibiotic use usually won't kill you but it can make your condition worse rather than better if you get the drug/dosage wrong.

There are risks associated with boner pills beyond the common "if you have a woody for more than 3 hours see a doctor" suggestion. Viagra was originally developed to reduce fluid buildup in tissues such as the pericardium, low and behold an off script side effect is well, we all know. These pills can present a real danger to someone already taking high blood pressure medication but to know this you would have to read the package insert which I am sure they don't hand out at the gas station or the farmacia is you are buying fewer than a whole box at a time.

While it is critical to get a recommendation from a physician, one aspect of the Dominican culture I love is the freedom to purchase most medications at a pharmacy without a prescription.

Of course mixing medications can be deadly, and taking the wrong chemical may prove ineffective, but it's a helluva lot better than the mega-expensive legal drug cartel in the states where the Best Lobbyist Wins.

With freedom comes responsibility. Freedom used without knowledge can be deadly.

The last doctor that prescribed an antibiotic to me also advised me to take a probiotic to avoid that problem.
