Memorable Christmas concert at the Basilica in Higuey
The traditional Basílica Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Christmas Carols Gala will take place in the city of Higuey on Friday, 23 November 2018 beginning at 7pm. Maestro José Antonio Molina will be conducting the National Symphony Orchestra. Two leading Dominican merengue soloists, Milly Quezada and Eddy Herrera, will be performing for the concert. Also on the program is the participation of Koribe, the choir of the Ministry of Culture, directed by Nadia Nicola Ojeda. The concert is sponsored by the Grupo Puntacana.

The church has capacity for around 3,000 persons. A giant screen will be set up outside the Basilica with additional seats so more people can enjoy the concert.


Coming summer 2019: Southwest to fly non-stop HOU to PUJ
As of June 2019, Southwest will be flying nonstop between William P. Hobby International Airport (HOU) in Houston and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. The HOU airport is conveniently located 11 km from downtown Houston. It is the oldest commercial airport in Houston, Texas.

The flights are being offered for the summer months. Punta Cana is a big family destination, with many of the large resorts incorporating water parks into their activities.

The nonstop flights will depart Saturday mornings at 10:15am, with arrival set for 3:30pm in Punta Cana. Return non-stops are scheduled to depart Saturdays at 4:25pm and land at Hobby Airport at 7:40pm. Current pricing hovers around US$800 for the flight.

Southwest is partnering with several Dominican resorts for vacation packages.


Viva Wyndham V Samana offers bungalow accommodations starting January
Viva Wyndham V Samana announced it will be adding new luxury accommodations for the winter season. The adults-only resort is in Cozón, Samaná, in the Las Terrenas destination on the northern side of the peninsula.

Viva Wyndham is describing the new construction as “a resort-within-a-resort.” It is expanding to include 34 thatched-roof bungalows. The new units will include plunge pools and bathrooms with rain showers.

Viva Wyndham reports that the bungalows will be located adjacent to the Viva Wyndham’s Coconut Whispers spa and all guests in the bungalows will receive complimentary foot massages at the spa. On the all-inclusive program also are cocktail and cooking classes.

The bungalows are being marketed for stays starting in January 2019.


Punta Cana is very popular with Americans for Thanksgiving
Punta Cana is listed among the most popular Thanksgiving destinations for Americans by AAA. The entity is projecting that 54.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or further from home over the Thanksgiving holidays, 2.5 million more people or 4.8% more than last year.

AAA’s top listed destinations are the theme-park of Orlando, Florida, followed by New York City and Anaheim, California, the theme park capital of the West. The No. 4 destination is beach land Punta Cana on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Next are Las Vegas, Nevada; Cancún, Mexico; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; Washington, D.C. and Miami, Florida.

The Thanksgiving holidays, which start on Wednesday, 21 November and end at midnight Sunday, 25 November 2018 in the United States.
