Hi again,

Is there a duty free where one can buy cigarettes when exiting the airport in Puerto Plata?

Thanks again!

They sell cigars and I'm pretty sure cigarettes, too, but you'll get them cheaper in town than you will at duty free.

I do believe that any "duty free" savings are negated by a base price increase. Resort tourists who do not get to local shops are being gouged on prices by assuming that the duty free stores "must" by definition be cheaper...

Not sure that is true. Friends inbound @ POP bought 2 LITERS of Drambuie there for $55 USD.

How is this a ripoff ? LCBO price for 750 ml Drambuie is $42.90 CAD. Total Wines Miami $37.99 USD for 750 ml.
They paid $55 USD for 2 liters ( 2000 ml ).
Do the math brother

Quite possibly they paid $55 per bottle? Which I think is the case. A quick Google search and Drambuie comes up at $42 to $55 a bottle at different Duty Free stores in different countries.

I have yet to find anything cheaper at Dufry Duty free that I can't find for the same or lower price in SD Centro. Prices at the larger supermarkets are cheaper for smokes, booze, and coffee than Dufry.

I fly in twice a month, it is absolutely cheaper to buy liquor at the Dufree store than in town. Tito's vodka 2 for $36, Absolute 2 for $42 (the large bottles). Not sure about the cigarettes, sorry.

As long as you don't buy Dominican Rum you will get a better deal than anywhere else.

$31 here. And Duty Free America is the same outfit that sells in the DR. And the prices are similar. And there are always special deals for 2 bottles, so it could be less.

One more important thing to note. Almost all bottles at Duty Free are 1 Liter instead of .75. Big difference in value.
