A few days ago I was struck by the videos of this young Haitian. After the earthquake in 2010 was sent to the USA, but she never felt good there. Her focus in life has always been Haiti and despite the very negative reaction from her family members, including her parents whom she says were her biggest opponents (she claims that her relationship with her own mother deteriorated tremendously, almost to the point of become enemies), she moved back to Haiti. She claims it was the best and the hardest decision she ever made, but that it was worth it because she is happy in Haiti.

Not only did it struck me to see a young person reject life in the USA to live in a country like Haiti, but she also claims many young Haitians in the USA send her emails asking her to help them move back to Haiti too.

Is this part of a new phenomenon among young Haitians abroad? If it is part of a new desire among young Haitians, perhaps there is some hope for Haiti’s future.

Unfortunately she disabled imbedding of her videos in other websites. I’ll simply leave the links to the videos that caught my attention.

I live with a Hatian Family in Fort Lauderdale as I was hoping to pick up the language (hopeless). It seems almost universal that Hatians have a love/hate relationship going with their former country. If there was work, I'm sure many of the younger generation would move back in a heart beat.

I remember reading about europeans that often moved back and forth between their home country and the USA. On quipped that he was only happy during the ship passage.

people migrate to the USA because of the possibility of getting a job which páys them enough to achieve things they could not do at home. people who have sufficient funds and status in their own countries do not emigrate. you will not generally see the scions of industry seeking a visa to the USA to go and live there. they get one so they can pop into Miami on a friday morning to get some groceries. nobody goes to the USA for its ''freedoms'', nor its ''way of life'', whatever those catechisms may suggest. a guy who can walk on the malecon with a beer in his hand does not go to New York , where he will be arrested for the same action, for ''freedom''.

maybe Haitians are returning to Haiti because employment possibilities for low skilled people are not as plentiful as they were 30 years ago, and job hunting is proving fruitless. the xenophobia and general anti immigrant sentiment which currently is at a boil in the USA surely does not encourage them to persevere...

anti-immigrant? More like anti-US nonsense. The USA accepts more immigrants than any other country in the world.

And none of them throw rocks at us on their way in.

what are you talking about? do you want to have an intelligent debate, or discussion, or do you want to go off on some incoherent rant?

if you are going to even suggest that there is no anti immigrant sentiment in the USA, then i am not going to dignify such foolishness with a response. every single day you can find a new video on youtube of some people minding their own business, and some guy or woman attacking them for speaking a different language. even people who were born in America are being accosted , just because they appear to be immigrants.

where have you been? has all this passed you by? you need to catch up. don't tell me that you have never seen stuff like this...

I thought I was fairly coherent. Anti-Immigrant sentiment is NOT at a "boil" as you say. And I don't need to watch your little youtube video. I know there are idiots in every walk of life. That does not make it wide-spread.

When's the last time you were in the US? Me thinks you are out of touch.
