I'm looking for a private public school that is bilingual preferably taught by a North American or European in Puerto Plata city or very close to. If you're a dad or mom please let me know the quality of education your child receives pros and cons and how you compare it against ( insert your country ) i'm looking for a school preferably that is detached from any religious views. Oh and please include price!

I am not new to Dominican I am a young professional still in Canada but wife is Dominican. I never really checked this out but since having a toddler and with plans on being there half the year I need to hear your opinions thanks!

Maybe this is too far, but the International School of Sosua(ISS) teaches in English and offers Spanish, and is affiliated with American AdvanceEd, AP College Board etc. Not religious and standards/approaches/expectations similar to what we would expect here in Canada. When I looked into teaching in the DR, it was the only international school on the entire North Coast. There is one gaining a little momentum now in Las Terrenas, but that's too far away.

As a teacher and parent, I would probably consider ISS first for K-12 if I relocated to the North Coast. They do not publicly post their fees and I'm sure it's not cheap but check their website and call or email to find out. Although they don't show up on the big teacher recruiting agency sites anymore so I'm not sure what that's about. Do some research, they will have lots of expat parents so ask if there's someone who you could email/call with questions. Maybe someone will even reply to your thread with kids who are/have attended.

There are other pre-K/"Nido" type schools in the Cabarete area that I would choose for my toddlers until they reach elementary school age. If you are interested in schools that far out from Puerto Plata, send a PM.

You should check out O&M Hostas. Technically, they teach in English but most of the students speak Spanish. It's a great school!

I thought I had posted that, but seems that my browser froze:

Hostos School is within the city of POP (http://hostosschool.com/), close to the main street Av. Manolo Tavarez Justo and Puente Seco. So echoing judypr above.

Pricing: http://hostosschool.com/admission/

Some reviews: https://www.facebook.com/pg/HostosSchool/reviews/?ref=page_internal

Our oldest is there, I have nothing negative to say, they offer a wide variety of activities, our son is very happy with the teachers and his classmates, and is learning incredibly fast. Majority of the classes (he's still in Kindergarten) are in English, and then they have a dedicated Spanish teacher and Spanish class.

In the past, we've also inquired the fees for the above mentioned ISS, and they were at that point significantly higher, and to us, it simply would not work going twice a day from POP to Sosua.

There you go OP. Good luck with Hostos. If you are still considering ISS, I am not certain but wouldn't be surprised if they have some sort of bus service into POP.
