New York Times focuses on Samana’s heritage
Few traveling to Samana today, where the French migration seems to prevail, are aware of the American heritage that marked the peninsula in the 1800s.

A story in The New York Times, reminds all of the mark left in Samana by the group of more than 300 African-Americans who chartered a boat to Samana in 1824 from Philadelphia. The settlers brought their songs and their religion that today is being kept alive by a few descendants and can be experienced with a Sunday visit to La Churcha, the wooden church in Samana city, the capital of the province-peninsula.

He stressed the importance of land use planning. “A lot of work is still needed if we want to continue the growth of the sector, a sector that has a predominant role in the development of our country,” said Rainieri.

"We have to promote the benefits of tourism throughout the Dominican economy, that leads to long-term stability, with a vision of the dynamic vision of the future and, as we say in Grupo Puntacana, without haste but without pause", he said.

Rainieri is also president of the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the execution of social-business responsibility and environmental preservation programs. Moreover, he has maintained an active participation as a member of the renowned international non-profit institutions: YPO International, Clinton Global Initiative and World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), among others.

Rainieri has held the presidency of Asonahores, Asoleste, has been a member of the Monetary Board, UNAPEC university, and first vice president of the National Business Council. He is also a past president o the American Chamber of Commerce and still is on its board o directors. He is a past member of the Caribbean Hotel Association board and founding president of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism.

The Asonahores Tourism Investment Forum is a platform for dialogue on public and private stakeholders in tourism. This year, the forum focused on “Development of Tourism through the Stock Market.”
