Yes he is

Golf Week and Forbes had articles...
They really don’t apply to our esteemed group here on DR1 I’m afraid

I'm grateful to have been there many times in the "Old Days" when it was most affordable especially with the Fedogolf discount.

It’s quite different now

Holes reconfigured, drainage, sand, grasses....big money invested

The caliber it should have been

But who will be allowed to play and at what cost per round?
If it's $200 per person then not many will come.
If it's hotel guests only - yawn.

We rode by yesterday and it still looked like construction.

How do they expect to survive if no one plays, unless the HOA fees to the uber wealthy are yuge...

There are home lots ready... several sold

The hotel has been fully operational for 2-3 yrs
Clubhouse construction to start
Small bars/restaurants on the course done and staffed

2400 acres is a big project.

DiscoveryLand is the operator/developer... Third Point the money

Look them up - they'll survive just fine without you & me

I think is a common misconception about golf courses in developments.

The course itself will never make money.... never.
It is the 'bait', the 'hook', the attraction to buy there.

The money is in the real estate... if the course breaks even - that's a win

These good courses you hear of have a big initiation fee and big annual dues, sometimes minimum spending amounts too.
Well over $1,000/mo
If you calculate how a much a round you pay 'all in'.... you should quit.
That's not the point of membership

My friend's business is tracking down failing retail golf courses...
ones with lots of land around them.
He buys them... rehabs the course and sells lots around it.
He gets his funding from the Yale Endowment Fund..... quite sizable money !!
