I am looking for lodging info in the DR to hold a 3-5 day family reunion during the 1st week of August 2003 for about 40-50 family members and friends of the family - preferably in a resort or beach area.

Family members will range in age from toddlers to 80 years old. Therefore, the hotel facilities/amenities and the nearby area need to accommodate and satisfy a variety of "needs and wants" (water sports, entertainment, sightseeing, children activities, meeting/dining room etc.)

The "older' family members were all born in the DR - left as children in the mid-sixties and raised in the U.S. So we (except for the younger generation) speak the language, know the customs/culture etc., and visit DR at least once a year. The reunion is being driven by the 80th birthday celebration of our mother who is retired and lives in San Cristobal, near the capital. Most of us will be flying in from the states.

A concern we have is that the Pan American Games to be held in DR next summer will reduce the availability of hotel rooms.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Why not try the North Coast

The Playa Dorada area can be perfect for you.
The hotels there have conference rooms for up to 100 people and there is plenty to do. Gran Ventana, Club Dorado, Villas Doradas, all offer nice accomodations.
You should probably make reservations and a deposit now since there will be some demand at that time
1)People here will be heading to Puerto Plata for vacations before school starts
2) Probably a lot of folks in Santo Domingo will seek refuge there to escape the craziness of the Pan Am Games.
So act early..
