How unusual!

Water is not a good medium to transfer S wave energy from an Earthquake so it is unlikely that the quake off the coast of PR in the Mona Passage was felt to any great extent here in the DR despite its relatively shallow origin - but it's possible.

Pretty sure we felt the 4.7 from Guaymate. Kind of scary. Windows rattled like it was an explosion but it was weird feeling as we were sitting on our balcony drinking coffee.

I heard a rumbling, thought it was a plane landing and didn't feel anything. Funny to see people's reactions on fb. "It was really strong!! OMG!!". They ain't felt no nothin'...

Didn't get up from the seat when sensed the rumblings. Get used to a little shaking now and then. When it is a 5.0+ then the ears stand up and exit route from cave eyed.

The USGS has reviewed the Guayamate quake. It is downgraded to 4.5 and the map relocated it to the north of Miches and east of Samana. Maybe expect more revisions.

Grew-up in So. Cal, lived in a stick-built frame construction house with plaster walls. My father had to constantly patch the walls and repaint due to almost constantly occurring earthquakes. Not uncommon to be sitting in the dining room eating dinner and the chandelier above the table would be swinging from side-to-side. The quake here was not typical of the ones in So. Cal, as the construction here is different. I thought it felt more like a propane gas explosion nearby than an earthquake. The windows rattled a little and there was a sudden "lurch" that stopped as fast as it started. Guess I was wrong about the explosion explanation! Live here and Learn!
