In his third try, Mexican golfer wins Latin America Amateur Championship
Mexican Alvaro Ortiz won the Latin American Amateur Championship that took place 17-20 January 2019 at Casa de Campo’s Teeth of the Dog golf course. The 23-year-old Ortiz earned a spot to play in the Augusta, Georgia, USA National in April 2019. If he chooses to stay amateur, he will be exempt into the final stage of qualifying for the US Open and British Open. He will be the first Mexican to play in the Masters since Victor Regalado in 1979. Ortiz had been a runner-up each of the last two years of the tournament. “It feels good to finally lift the trophy,” Ortiz said.

Golf Digest highlighted in their coverage of the event the good start of participating Dominican golfers Enrique Valverde and Juan Cayro Delgado.

Azur Air changes airport of arrival in the Dominican Republic
Russian airline Azur Air is now flying into La Romana Casa de Campo International Airport (LRM). The airline switched from Punta Cana International (PUJ) as of 1 January 2019. The Casa de Campo airport is around a half an hour drive from Punta Cana beach resort areas and the same from the Bayahibe-Dominicus beach resorts area.

The airline executives say that the new airport offers modern infrastructure and a less busy tarmac and terminal, for increased passenger comfort. The airline says this means that pre-flight procedures and baggage claim time is reduced.
