That was headlines in all the papers

The realy sad thing is that only about 45% of the registered voters will be deciding the election.

This, in a country with a 44 hour holiday just to vote.

Unfortunately, for the whole country, our governments are being chosen, in the main, by the ignorant masses who vote with their stomachs. Not that there is anything wrong with that, except that "offers" tend to get silly, just to get the vote.

If, as some believe will happen, the Pe?a-G?mez Effect, has run its course, the PRD should lose several Senate seats, municipalities, and deputies. Perhaps with a more contentious Congress-who knows? Perhaps something good will happen..

vote for the "lesser evil..."

Unfortunately, most Dominicans are so disappointed with elected officials that they think the best thing to do is not to vote. This only shows ignorance and lack of information by the Junta Central Electoral as to why is so important to vote in a democratic society. People should be taught not only 'HOW" to vote but also "WHY", like Hillbilly said, they are thinking with their "barrigas" (bellies). I think Dominicans have "PLENTY" of choices and the vote should go to the "lesser evil".... ;)

We are headed

for the dictatorship of the Chopos. This will soon become a one party system(The PRD Chopos).

With their control of congress and power we can expect our taxes to rise. The ITBIS will go to 15%. The 1.5% advance will stay and probably go to 2%. Tolls will increase everywhere to $25 pesos and in the new highways it will go as high as $100. Hipolito will borrow until his credit card limit and then some. Chopos will have full employment doing nothing but political work for the PRD, all at our expense. The new administration at City Hall, if Peggy wins will triplicate its personnel budget. They will have three people sitting in the same desk. We will have 25,000 government inspectors playing dominoes in our sidewalks. Haitians will flourish and will be all over without fear of repercussions. Our constitution will be turned into a letter soup.

We will be buried in garbage up to our knees. Daniel Lois, a potential PRD mayor for Santo Domingo North was brought from Haiti. He will bring back the mob scene from the 60's. The minute you see a press conference by this guy, you might think we are somewhere in Zululand.
