Too fast and bad tires, and I'll bet the driver had no experience on that road.

It happened going downhill where the big curve is by the religious monument.

This happens frequently. People go down that big hill riding their brakes instead of using engine compression. They get to that big curve carrying way too much speed and need to slow down more...and have no brakes left, too much heat.

In 11 years we've seen several dozen such accidents, including a few buses. One Caribe Tour bus missed the big curve at the bottom of the hull just a minute or less before our 8 bikes were coming up. It never made the curve and went straight downhill through it.

When we ride up the hill the smell of hot brakes is prominent.

Very sad.

It was a bus full of Haitian soccer players from Maimon and the other vehicle coming up that was hit was a jeepeta. The driver of the Jeepeta was killed but passenger survived. Bus flipped over but didn't go down the cliff. This was the corner by the Virgin, and the road leans out the wrong way. Driver of the bus lost control but as CB says probably overheated brakes and too fast. Latest count is 6 dead and 58 injured.
