Default Average tip - Gas attendant- Grocery store... Average cost of labour.

    How much does everyone tip:
The gas attendant for pumping your gas? We normally do 20-25dop
The grocery store bagger guys? we normally do 20dop
Restraunts over and above the so called 10% ley WE DO still another 10%
Who else do you normally tip?

What do you pay for casual labour?
we normally do 800-1000dop plus lunch for occasional labour.

500-800dop for regular continued labour every day for extended time.
Not including Christmas, and liquidation pay.

    Gas attendant nothing.
    Bagger guy, 50.
Restaurants, 50-100, no 10%, we are not in the US.

Labour, depends on what. Gardening, we have a Haitian, 600 and brings his own equipment.

Gas attendant: 0 unless he cleans the windows, then 10 pesos
Bagger: 0 unless he carries bags to car, then 10-25 pesos
Restaurants: Don't start that one! But usually 10%
Casual labour: 100 pesos per hour
These may not seem high, but I'm not American and the recipients always seem quite happy.

Gas attendant: 0 If I ask to clean the windows - 20 pesos
Bagger: 0 Never needed one to bring bags to car.
Restaurant: 10% on top of the 10% ley if service is good, but calculated on the price of food/drinks only.
Casual labor: 150 pesos/hr, for example maid cleans apto for 500 pesos. 800-1000/day.

Of course and I dont tip for two bags like the supermercado in RSJ where everything is overpriced.
Good thing is, Aniano, from Moto tipo san, is going to open a supermarket bigger and cheaper than the well known. Just outside

Gas attendant: 0 , nada , but always a “gracias” and maybe a fist bump
Bagger: assuming he carries bags to the car, then 50 - 100 pesos max
    Restaurants: takeouts 0 , otherwise 15%
Casual labour: depends on the work but usually 500 pesos

Well.... since you mentioned him.... and the topic is tipping....
    A little story.

One day he and his friends were out on the weekend - dirt biking -
    mud, scruffy, the works.
The posse rides in to Playa Grande beach for food/drink and live it up....
The staff isn't too interested in them.... a junior waiter gets the jobs of serving the lowlife.

End of meal - they start patting their pockets - not enough money...
    they are short PLENTY !!

Now the senior staff steps up ready to resolve this physically....
The young waiter stops it all.....
I'll trust them to come back and pay me

The thugs are saved but escorted to the parking lot.

    Few days later----

A Range Rover pulls in... a driven RR
Fellow steps out of the rear....
Full RD bling.. shades, chains - you name it

    The seniors swarm him -
He chooses the kid for his waiter.
Has a leisurely meal - quietly pays and tips well.

As he stands to leave... he asks the kid to come with him.....

Brand new moto and full payment for the weekend meal waiting in the parking lot....

Senior staff drop their jaws..... kid jumps for joy

True story as told by staff as the beach.....

It sounds fine to me, but I'm not sure if the gas attendant will consider the "gracias" and a fist bump a good propina!

He is very generous. He gave my brother in law a brand new Kia, just because he helped him out with something.
