It happened to me.....
Card had suspected fraud activity...3/31

My last 4 purchases were:
Bravo in STI
Dentist in STI
Dinner in the Zona
Lunch locally near Cabrera

Between 3/24 & 3/27

All RD buys

New card on its way.

They tried a $4.51 purchase on some obscure website...
Card company (Barclays) notified me.

I had similar case but for a larger amount a few years ago. Had just come back from a long trip in the US. Chase calls me to ask if I was in Santo Domingo, at a bar, and had charged over $100 in drinks with my card. Neither I had been nor had I lost my card, or had used it here before that long trip to the US. Quite likely, my card info had been duplicated in the US. Just a coincidence that ended up being used in a cocktail bar in SDQ.

We paid for the rent car Sixt online. With our most reliable and secure card. Immediately after that we got 5-6 fraudulent charges in the amounts of $10-$70. Mostly some "donations". Notified the bank right away. Charges cancelled. Card closed. A new one received. But had to bring the old card with us. Since in the car reservation it was stated that "THE CARD MUST BE PRESENTED IN PERSON UPON PICK UP THE CAR". Nobody asked us about the old card.
We use our CCs here ONLY in Ole and 2-3 EXPENSIVE restaurants. ONLY !

As I wrote...

I rarely use the cards here...but this was an exception

I had over $1000 in purchases in a 3-4 day stretch.
My pockets aren't big/deep enough.

The car rental co's are famous for this here..... culprits

Can't tell you for sure where the card number was stolen, but can tell you that the small initial test charge is likely a software program used to verify good accounts on a list of card numbers purchased online.

Cards ripped here in the DR usually see a large initial purchase and more purchases until the card fails to work any longer. DR card rippers haven't by in large figured out how to directly tie into the point of sale networks yet.

Try using cash. Works a lot better in the DR..................
