    Casa de Campo is welcoming sports fishermen to challenge the Caribbean Sea. As part of the 2019 Dominican Billfish Triple-Header Tournament Series, Casa de Campo will be hosting local and international sports fishermen this 10-13 April 2019 for the Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic at the Casa de Campo Marina in La Romana.

    The billfish series then heads east to Punta Cana for Cabeza de Toro International White Marlin Fishing Tournament from 15 to 18 May 2019. And in the fall, the Cap Cana residential and tourism community hosts the International Cap Cana Billfish Shootout, from 2-5 October, also in Punta Cana.

    There will be winners and prizes for each individual tournament, but fishing boats participating in at least two of the three tournaments accumulate points for the overall winner of the Dominican Billfish Triple-header that will be determined at the end of the third and final leg.

    Dominican Rum Festival: 19-20 July 2019
    Participate in rum tastings, lectures and workshops, concerts, cocktail contests and gastronomic tastings, among other events, that are part of the 2nd Dominican Rum Festival set to be held 19-20 July 2019 in Puerto Plata. In its second year, the organizers have chosen the impressive panoramic setting of the Puerto Plata Amphitheater.

    Puerto Plata boasts the two leading options for touring rum factories – Brugal and Vinícola del Norte, both with outstanding excursion options including tasting and buying opportunities.

    Xterra Samana: 31 August to 1 September
    Viva Wyndham V Samaná, Cosón Bay and Sublime Samaná hotels are hosting the Xterra Dominican Republic, a challenging sports event that features fun events for all the family. Xterra Samaná is one of the 39 prestigious races in 29 countries where amateur racers can earn a qualifying spot to race at the 24th annual Xterra World Championship on 27 October 2019 in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii with US$100,000 in cash prizes.

    The Xterra Samaná, Dominican Republic features triathlon and trail run in the categories of Off Road, Trail Run, Stand Up Paddle (SUP) and Kids Run. There will be cash prizes for US$7,500.

    Amanda Santana, sales vice president for Viva Resorts, says that since the event began five years ago it has served to position the country as a sports destination.

    Polibio Schiffino, president of Caribbean Multixport, the local franchisee, explains that since 2018, Xterra Samana has been a qualifier for the Xterra Panamerican Tour, that is the best-known mountain triathlon event.

    Puerto Plata readies for the Discover Marketplace 2019
    Discover Marketplace 2019, the leading exhibition on Puerto Plata and other north coast destinations, is set for 18-20 September 2019 at the Convention Center of the Blue JackTar Hotel in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata.

    Tourism professionals, representing lodging, tour operators, travel agencies and airlines, will be meeting with incoming professionals from around 20 source markets from around the world.

    The organizers say that Discover Marketplace provides interesting workdays and is dedicated to the promotion of sustainable and adventure tourism, combining nature with culture and history. The event features a combination of travel products and networking opportunities.
