Hmmmm

Santo Domingo.- No more paperwork to renew temporary and permanent residence as of May 8, when it will be processed exclusively online through the Immigration Directorate website, the agency said on Monday.

“The payment will be made in the same way,” Immigration said in a statement.

“The new process will prevent users from going to the institution to deposit the documentation when requesting the renewal of their immigration status,” it said.

Applicants must access the Immigration website, select the service, fill out the online forms and scan the documents, passport, and expired or about to expire ID card. “After receiving the documents online, they will be verified and then the system will issue the user a payment notice, which must be done with a credit or debit card.”

Immigration said that once the corresponding payment has been made, the user must click on the button to complete the process, so that it’s registered in the DGM and the appointment is generated, according to the statement.

“After completing the process and making the payment to obtain the card, the user will proceed to deposit at the DGM’s headquarters, with prior notification, the payment receipt or voucher that will be provided by the system with the date and time of the appointment.”

Good news, if it actually works. Let's wait to hear from someone who attempts the new process.

It works, is part of the project Republica Digital, goverment has more than 100 services online including Application for new passport or renew passport. I used the passport service and worked very well, paid online, the only thing they have to improve is they ask for some papers they should not ask when you renew and they do it just to collect money.

If only they could figure out a way to print residency cards and cedulas in local offices.

news in spanish here:
https://elnuevodiario.com.do/dgm-in...migratorio-se-realizara-a-traves-de-internet/

this part makes me wonder:

so the applicant has to deposit in DGM a proof of payment in order to get an appointment made? in other words, you still gotta go to GDM twice anyways? once to arrange an appointment and then again to actually attend it?

To me it looks like the payment is made on line via credit or debit card and you take that receipt for payment with you when you have an appointment. That payment voucher has the date and time of the appointment on it. The only trip would be to pick up the residency card and cedula:

This from DR1 seems to be more clearly stated:

Payment online for residencies
The Migration Agency (DGM) has announced that from 8 May 2019, temporary and permanent residencies will only be renewed with Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cards payments online at migracion.gob.do

The DGM says that the new system will mean that users will not have to go to its offices to deposit documents asking for the renewals of their residencies as the documents can be scanned and uploaded via the website.

The user should then go to the DGM offices to deposit the receipt and receive their residence card at the time and date they are given.

One trip should do it.

So I too ask:
What about the medical exam?
Thankfully mine does not expire for another 3 years so lots of time to "fix" the new and improved system.

Temporary renewals don't require a medical exam. Is one required for permanent renewal?
If so, maybe they're planning to(or already have), eliminate the medical exam for permanent renewals(?). Seems like a totally unnecessary requirement to me.

All gov services will be rolled over to online.
This is one of the phases to eliminate the factor of corrupted clerks and officials. The system reviews automatically each request and validates the documentation also via electronic means. The system also makes sure to flag any documents that can't be vetted and refers them for a reviewer, after which any request for re-submits will be audited by a different reviewer.

This will extend to all gov services and transactions, save none.

You can bribe a clerk, but you can't bribe a computer system or know which reviewer will be in charge of the vetting, should it come to that.

As for the banks, they received their notification that all accounts must be vetted and the account holder must be physically present and legal at the time their account was or will be created. This was just a notification pending the rollout of the bank reporting system to combat money laundering and fiscal evasion. Some banks are being pro-active and doing some tasking, others will just freeze all accounts that are not vetted against a Cedula once the system is linked.
The requirement for a heartbeat (this is the period for which an account is dormant and re-used) from some banks are based on this notice.

I told you many a times that things will change little by little as phases are introduced, all linked to the national database.

Medical exams will go from the doctor's office direct to the gov once their phase is rolled out.

This is how gov corruption in all agencies is being addressed. Eliminating the corruptible human factor in the chain.

In Chicago we used to have our vehicles inspected by phone. That would be a lot like having a physical exam done 'online!'
