Global Affairs Canada stated today on MSN that so far this year 2019 that 28 Canadians have died in RD.
    Mexico YTD = 111 ; Cuba 39.
That on the average 42 Canadians die in RD each year.
That on the average 52 Canadians die in Cuba each year. That on the average 117 Canadians die in Mexico each year
Averages are based upon past 10 years history.

Based upon numbers only RD is least opportunity for untimely demise , Cuba Next with Mexico hitting the most likely .

This is posted on MSN today by Global Affairs today.

Phew,I am glad I am going to RD tomorrow and not Mexico.

Russell, it is not the total number that you should be paying attention to, it is the per capita deaths, as a percentage of the number of Canadian tourists for example, which is a far more relevant number.

    2016 numbers from Global Affairs:
    DR- 45 deaths; 549,000 visitors = .00820
    Mexico- 147 deaths; 2,255,000 visitors = .00652 deaths

It's in the link in post #1487:

That is all available through Global Affairs....
The issues in this thread has been that 7+ Americans have expired in RD.... I simply want to make the comparative analysis in numbers only.

I fully understand the other parts of the analysis.

    Fun though, huh?
Heading to RD tomorrow with Ecoman ...... Never go to Mexico .... no, no!

    Have a nice day.

In Playa Dorada now. All three West Jet flights yesterday from Toronto to PC, Samana, and POP were almost full. It would appear Canadians are not being influenced by the US media toro caca. Talked to two people on the fight who were heading down to check out property to buy. The resort I’m at is about half full.

Unscientifically speaking, my flight had 177/180 passengers......close enough to call it full.

Staying with clients at the Iberostar Puerto Plata and management claims it is full....although that appears to be a stretch. On a side note, this resort has gone downhill and is in need of new something.......management, a facelift, it is nothing to get excited over about and I would not recommend it going forward.

That having been said, I am also headed to the Tortuga Resort in Punta Cana for other client meetings......and they claim they are full.....and they might be. There is a huge difference between the quality at Iberostar and the quality at Tortuga and the type of tourist they attract.

Another observation is that the North coast continues its slow descent into tourist irrelevancy......in spite of the cruise ship port and all the other announced positive happenings.

Bottom line is I have not seen the alleged precipitous booking decline that the media touted. Perhaps it is still to come....but for now......

    Respectfully,
    Playacaribe2
