Hello,

As many people know, BHD atm machines in the Sosua area frequently charge customer accounts without providing funds. How does the scam work? Basically the ATM is designed to randomly steal money whenever the machine runs out of 1000 bills or when there are network issues. It is so rare for an ATM to charge customers without providing funds that it is impossible for these ATM's to be malfunctioning and stealing money from the public so frequently without any involvement of the bank. The bank employees also are trained to refuse returning the stolen funds. If you ever use a BHD ATM and it didn't work for whatever reason, there is a good chance you were intentionally robbed by this clever scam targeting tourists.

We actually had this happen to us years ago at a BHD machine in a casino late at night in Santo Domingo, to the tune of about $500. We immediately called Mr AEs brother, who was the BHD VP in main office, and even with that connection we had to go through the same motions as everyone else. We reported it to OUR bank, who immediately replaced the money temporarily into our account, while they filed a claim through Visa with BHD. BHD investigated, as each machine is balanced every night, and our temporary refund was permanent.

I don’t know why it happened to us, but I certainly don’t believe it was intentional.

That can happend sometimes, happened to me with BPD and Im Dominican, the ATM didnt give me the money but discounted from my saving balance, I called to the bank, made a report and in 24 hrs I had my money back in my account. Those thing happend mosly when you are using ATM that is not from your bank.

As if a big bank like BHD has the need to scam some people out of a couple thousand pesos. Laughable.

If there is any scamming, it would have been from external hacking. These people have infrastructure and systems to assure transaction quality. Before the merger, Banco Leon, one of the most prestigious families of Dominican Republic. Agree with Caribmike, these people aren't ghetto scamming fees or any balances.

I've banked with BHD for thirteen years. One of the best banks in the country. Even better since they merged with Leon and increased their footprint.

Very professional. Excellent internet and mobile phone app banking. The staff in my branch know me by name and I receive a very personal service. High security. And quick to correct any mistakes. We had a discrepancy where some transactions were made on my account in SD when I was in Cabarete. Once proved and verified, the funds were refunded into the account without quibble.

In my opinion BHD is a far better bank than any of the high street banks that I used to deal with the UK. Want to speak to your bank manager in the UK? Forget it. You end up speaking to someone in a call centre in India, who just read from a script.

That has happened to me several times at the main office exterior ATM's of Scotia Bank in Santo Domingo. I called the Bank of America, the card issuer and they add the funds back in while I'm on the phone.

I am not a lawyer but I should think this post is libellous.

prolly no worse than fingering the resorts (nameless here) of poisoning the guests :ermm: But nevertheless, the OP's claim is baseless and conjecture
