Videos are all over social media, especially WhatsApp, thick, billowy black smoke. I have heard it's the computer center.

I hope the have data back-up somewhere else. And I hope it's not shenanigans.

This could be nothing, or this could be a serious problem.

There's still plenty of time to rig the election

Anyone know about the fire here and where it is located? I am not in the Capital (in the campo) but I am getting texts that there is some kind of fire...

I will only say this: I am glad that my lawyer has a copy of everything that I ever filed with DGM and JCE. I can see it now, "We cannot find your records." No problem, the firm has copies. :glasses:

How the heck is concrete building on fire :(...
No one said the building is on fire, but rather the stuff inside of it. Obviously the walls and ceiling will turn black due to the smoke, but the building itself isn’t the problem.

Today's DR1 news:

JCE: Losses big, but fire will not affect primaries
A major fire affected one of the warehouses of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) located off Av. Luperón in western Santo Domingo. The Inspection Unit (Unidad de Inspectoría) was destroyed, said the president of the JCE, Julio Cesar Castaños Guzmán. Fire brigades were able to put out the blaze before it spread to other areas of the JCE.

Castaños Guzman said that the upcoming 6 October 2019 primaries would not be affected. He, nevertheless, described the losses as in the millions. He said a printing division, and IT support areas that store old equipment, documentation and networks were affected.

I am amazed that half the country isn't ablaze most days due to the abysmal electrical work that is the norm in this country.

From DR1 news:

Fire Department delivers report on JCE fire
The National District Fire Department determined that an electrical short circuit caused the fire at the Central Electoral Board (JCE) on Sunday, 20 July 2019. The blaze devoured desks, chairs and computer devices. The investigation into the fire at the JCE Inspectorship Unit (Unidad de Inspectoría) determined it was an accidental fire and not arson.

The JCE has said that the information in the affected computers had backups.
