Peruvian chef Carlos Sebastiani is the new executive chef at the JW Marriott at the Blue Mall. Upon arriving, he has focused on making changes in the menu of the hotel's main restaurant. "We are working on a new concept for the restaurant based on the local experience. He said he is working with local arts and crafts people and investigating Dominican biodiversity. His research is also taking him to work with local fishers and farmers.
He said the plan is to position the hotel as the best destination for weddings and banquets in the city of Santo Domingo.
The hotel is working on a contemporary menu. "Let us not forget that the JW Marriott Santo Domingo is the only luxury hotel in the city, and luxury means being at the forefront," he explained to the press.
He said he is pleasantly surprised by the diversity in Dominican cooking, the variety of vegetables and fruits.

Cigar Country celebrates "Best of the Best" in benefit of the DREAM Project Foundation. During the event that is in its fifth year, Cigar Aficionado magazine recognizes the manufacturer of the best Dominican cigar. For 2018 it is the E.P. Carrillo Encore Majestic, chosen as the No.1 cigar in the world.
Organizers promise a magical night where cigar lovers can meet great manufacturers and connoisseurs of the industry. During the evening, raffles and auctions of premium products take place. The money raised is earmarked 100% for DREAM's Montessori early education program.
This year the Best of the Best will take place on Thursday, 29 August 2019 from 7 to 11pm at the JW Marriott Hotel on Av. Winston Churchill in Santo Domingo.

Xterra Samaná set for 31 August - 1 September 2019
The International Triathlon Xterra Samaná will take place in the province of Samaná from 31 August to 1 September 2019. The elite event is a qualifier for the World Triathlon Cup in Maui, Hawaii.
Athletes will compete in several events. These are the 1,500m swim, 30km bike and 10km run. Also the sprint category that includes a 750m, 15km bike, and 5km run. There will be three trail run competitions: half marathon (21km), 10km run and 5km run.
The event puts Samaná on the global triathlon map, say organizers Rosanna Pelaez and Manuel Medrano.
Participants will be staying at the Viva Wyndham V Samaná, Cosón Bay and Sublima Samaná hotels in Las Terrenas. Speaking for the hotels, sponsor Rafael Blanco Tejera says the event is evidence of the growing international interest in sport tourism in the Dominican Republic.

La Quinta by Wyndham will cater to Dominican tourists
The Profusion Group is planning a US$100 million expansion of Wyndham's La Quinta brand across the Dominican Republic, encompassing eight hotel projects. The first four properties would launch as early as 2021 developed in Punta Cana, La Romana, Boca Chica and Greater Santo Domingo (Puerto Caucedo).
The portfolio would be managed through an SPV administered by Universal, the leading Dominican National Trust Company.
