It is really unbelievable what Duty Free charges for Dominican Rum and coffee. Anyway Duty Free is a ripoff on a lot of things. The only thing you have going for you in Duty Free is liquor in 1 Liter bottles instead of .75L. And most of the rum is not in 1L bottles, in fact some are .7 L.

But be aware that in the DR you can get a 15% discount if you ask and buy a lot. Also any pilot will get this also. Out of the DR it is 20% for pilots.

And what about their dried-out cigars at DF? Ridiculous...

There is one advantage to being in the DR Duty Free. This is the only DF store I ever saw that sells good when you land. The DF stores in the DR have the exact same prices as Miami, as it has the same owners.

You can see the prices here.

i have just returned from spending a weekend in punta cana. I agree with the OP, its a town without a soul. I felt depressed there and felt there is nothing to do except drink and go to beach. Not my type of a town, not even for a weekend. On the way back, I stopped at Bayahibe beach. I must say, I enjoyed that beach more as there were people who looked more alive and the town seemed more welcoming.
i was thinking of working in punta cana. Thought about putting a chiropractic office there. Now I think it's best if I stay in santo domingo. I will be bankrupt soon in punta cana as there aren't any real people living there to fill up my office and the ones who do live there are probably are hiding in their own homes. The place seemed like a ghost town.

AZB, this is exactly how I felt when I was in that area before they really built it up. I am sure I would have the same feelings that you did if I went there again. It's great for people from a cold climate that want a week somewhere warm with everything included.

I was just checking on some AI's in PC in October for some friends. I did see quite a few discounts being offered, but I think it's pretty common this time of tear to get discounts.

I was surprised that several of the hotels were sold out on some of the dates I was checking. There were other dates with availability.

Many major Punta Cana Hotels will give good discounts for locals with a Cedula. Ask before you book for one.
