You can get them at La Nacional across from the Texaco station right now. I would assume plenty of other places also. But this one is quick and no people.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is Marbete? Nothing comes up in the dictionary except for the word TAGS...

I believe a Marbete is the sticker one gets to stick on a vehicle's windshield showing that road taxes for the current year have been paid.

APART FROM THE FEE ...WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PROVIDE TO GET THE MARBETE ?

A copy of your Matricula and your Cedula or Passport. That is what they want here, but really you only need the copy, as a lot of people send others to pick it up.

No line at La Nacional at the moment. Wait until the last possible moment and the line will be down the street... :)

Make sure all your traffic fines are paid (even the ones you had no idea about for a car you didn't own in a place you never lived). Outstanding fine - no marbete. You can check here https://portal.servicios.pgr.gob.do/

Interesting, I checked and I had an outstanding ticket from 2015, never stopped me from getting my Marbete for the last three years. This was a ticket I never even knew I had, apparently I parked too close to a corner or something. I went in and paid it and checked an hour later, all clear.

Todays DR1 news:

Pay traffic fines to renew vehicle circulation permits
The Tax Agency (DGII) is conditioning issuing vehicle circulation permits only to those that do not owe traffic fines. The DGII on Monday, 16 September 2019 opened the period to renew the vehicular circulation sticker, the "marbete.” The permit renewal period is from 16 September to 16 December 2019. After that, a fine of RD$2,000 is added to the renewal cost.

Renewals can be made online from now until 9 December, via the DGII website and the cost is the same as last year. Thirty-one financial companies are issuing the renewal stickers at 611 branches nationwide.

Vehicles from 2014 and older pay RD$1,500 and those from 2015 to the present date pay RD$3,000.

There are currently 1,374,321 vehicles that need to purchase the sticker to circulate.

The taxation office DGII is hoping to collect around RD$2.25 billion.

I’ve tried to get my ticket paid for years now, Amet always has a reason why they can’t print me another ticket to go pay at the bank. I just looked and it’s still in the system and I have gotten my Marbarete the last 2 years no problem, the year before that I had to wait till the Amet system was down to get the marbarete. I think I will try today and see what happens....
