I use the pharmacy in Costambar for many things but I also go to the public pharmacy at the University in Cafembra and downtown Puerto Plata where medications are about 1/10th the price....

a few weeks ago i went to Carol in Gazcue, to see if they had cheap reading glasses. you can get some half decent ones on Jose Luis in POP for 150 pesos. the better stuff in the back is 295.

when the cashier at Carol rang up the price, my knees buckled....1200 pesos.

i did not want them that badly..

To quote myself from a few weeks back regarding this subject matter.....

"I happen to prefer Carol, and have never had an issue of note. There are many dubious, or shall I say suspect pharmacies nationwide that sell counterfeit or expired medications. This is not the case with Carol. Branches I have visited always have knowledgeable, well trained staff on hand.
Cleanliness and organization is ever present.
Some locations are open 24/7, holidays included.
    Delivery service offered as well.
And yes, credit cards are accepted."

"Regarding "pharmacy closest to you", this is simply not the case, and could also prove to be very dangerous, especially here within the RD.
Again, as previously stated, there are many dubious, and suspect pharmacies nationwide that sell counterfeit or expired medications. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals are a major business. Especially those medications that are shipped in from China and India.
Some pharmacy staffs possess zero knowledge of medications or dosages, utilizing Google to advise customers.
Just as one should take caution with grocery shopping and dining out, they should follow the same protocol for purchasing their pharmaceuticals."

The only pharmacy I trust is not on that poll. The one next to CMC. I’ve gotten fake meds at sooo many others. I guess Carol would be my second choice.

First thing you need to know is that the only drugs you actually need a prescription at all for are hard drugs like Oxy or such. You can go in or call any pharmacy yourself for things like minor pain killers, anti biotics, viagra, etc.

As for the ones needing prescriptions they will not accept out of country scripts. There must be a DR stamp on these by the local Dr.

My favorite is Hildagos but I voted for Carols. Hildalgos generally has the same meds but you can buy them in individual units unlike Carols. But Carols always has the meds you need in stock and theyre open 24 hours a day. You just cant beat that.
