An item scanning at the wrong price is not a rare event. I'm usually not too successful in getting the item for the lower shelf price, so I usually have the cashier void that item and leave it behind.
In Jumbo Higuey no questions asked if a claim is made after the article scans at different than posted price. I have had cash register adjustments and also received post-sale money back, never had to do a claim yet in la Sirena. In Iberia Higuey I was banned for one month by the local "gerente" Olivares because he got upset from my claiming wrong prices at checkout. Now I no longer claim, I just pay if I really want that product, and then go back, snap a picture of promo price, the cash register ticket, and file a complaint on Pro-consumidor website.

Yeah the guy is a weirdo. According to a person that knows him well, he has been store manager since the hypermarket opened like 15 years ago, he practically sleeps in the store, he is the first in and last out, always on the floor, has not taken one day off in 15 years, he lives in an apartment 50 meters from the store, at night he sits on balcony and spends the night with glass of wine looking at the store until he is asleep ... in his mind he is basically the store owner, though he is only a store manager. The Spanish owner keeps him because he pays him one salary but he works for like 10 people... he micromanages everything, does purchasing, oversees trucks unloading, checks on security staff, etc. working 8 am to 9 pm, every day, no vacation or day off... he is a self-made slave :-) I guess being called on wrong pricing he considers it like "taking money away from his pocket". poor weirdo.

I learned this the hard way as well. I purchased some candles a few years ago
and when i got home I noticed I paid almost double for each one. The next time
I was in La Sirena I asked one of the employees how this could have happened
and he said you have to use your discount card or you will always pay more for
    sale items.
