How fast do you have to go to destroy a car like that?

Fast. The newer Kia's and Hyundai's are making a lot of folks think they are invincible.

I knew this girl. The car was a gift from her gringo boyfriend, I'm told. A great shame for her young son.

I might be wrong but I think most of those Kias and Hyundais sold in DR don't have airbags.

If it's a model imported from the US then it will have front air bags and perhaps side airbags/curtains.......depending on year.

To your point, many Kias/Hyundais roaming the streets of the DR do not have airbags.....having been imported from elsewhere.

This vehicle does not look to have any air bags.........or if it did......they did not properly deploy. 2011-2013 Sonatas were recalled because there was risk a short circuit could prevent deployment in a crash.

Certainly a tragic loss of life.

It looks like one of those orange former imported taxis infesting the streets of the DR.

There is a car lot on the autopista on the outskirts of StoDgo that has hundreds of those orange cars.

Those orange Hyundais are really hideous looking. It's mostly taxi drivers that buy them. I heard new car dealers had to discount the price by $3000 to get them off their lots.
