    Default The China invasion

DR to get more cameras with facial recognition technology
In an interview with Dominican reporters visiting Beijing, the Dominican Ambassador to China Briunny Garabito Segura said that the Dominican government is considering the expansion of its security cameras with facial recognition capability with equipment that is not from China. During the reception, the ambassador said that several public areas have been chosen for the facial recognition security cameras, in addition to the UASD main campus.

Talking about other issues that could well involve Chinese industry or investment, Garabito Segura said that the Port of Manzanillo public tender would be held and this does not necessarily mean that the construction will be carried out by a Chinese firm. The Medina administration had signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese government entities for the development of the port.

Regarding the issue of electricity, Garabito said that the Chinese have shown interest in investing in alternative, renewable energy production, and are willing to compete with other companies.

Tourism is also on the agenda and the ambassador noted that the number of tourists and visitors from China to the Dominican Republic has increased by 173% and airplane ticket sales have increased by 300%. Including business travel. The number of visitors from China has gone from 6,000 per year to 18,000 last year.

NOT a bright future if China gets involved in Port and/or Electricity, at least if it has similar effects of other countries around the globe. China's Belt and Road program is very successful for them but not so much for the peoples of those countries. Sure some people on top will get very very rich but the Dominican people will suffer.
Look for delays and cost overruns, but then China will offer to absorb the full cost, in exchange for ownership of the projects.

Please bring them in. I have a condo I want to sell. They seem to be one of the few countries left that have an abundance of cash and are willing to spend it

China has been excellent on screwing developing countries. Why would it be any different for the DR?

In Panamá almost all the colmados are Chinese owned, and called Chinos instead of Colmados or mini markets, a few are not including a chain called Marketa but most are.

China doesn't have a monopoly on screwing over their territories and protectorates and certainly doesn't stand alone in exploiting other countries for economic and political gain. The pot should be careful when referring to the teapot.

This country is ripe for the picking. Not being able to see past the end of next week, any long term contracts will most assuredly be approved despite onerous terms and conditions.

Eg Catalina power plant, toll Hwy from Nagua to SD, anything involving Odenbrecht. China will just sweep in and the Dominicans will never see them coming - that that this hasn't been done elsewhere by others is still my point.

China got the DR to disavow Taiwan in exchange for "favors". The DR should be very careful what they sign up to with China.

I really do hate the "it happens everywhere " or "everyone does it" argument. This is about China and what they are doing is a very real and present danger. What other countries have done to be "like China" is totally irrelevant to this discussion.
