The powerhouse of the hotel and tourism people, the pols in office, the media world wide, will not allow to let this get screwed up by chump change passing from a crooked lawyer to a crooked judge. I can assure you that powerful people at the top of the economic, legal and political food chain are well aware of how important this case is.

Certainly not living a luxury life. Seems like a large lot, but a modest house in a dusty campo.
My mental picture from Matilda's writing did not conjure up her living such a spartan existence.

I don’t ever remember her saying she lived a luxury life.

That being said, her home wasn’t “modest”, from the front it’s very deceiving. House was large, I’d say about 3,000 sq.ft., very spacious by any standards. Easily the nicest home in the area. The entire back of the house is a wall of sliding glass doors, maybe 5-6 sets, that open onto a deck and a long flight of stairs to a beautiful rear yard that went way back. The lot is a long rectangle.

With Danilo receiving his law license recently, it looked like he was finally going to be contributing financially again, and the future looked rosy. Heartbreaking

Thanks for that correction. I should have withheld that info until I was sure about it.
My apologies for passing along false info.

I hope all Lindsay's computers, backups, papers, notes, Facebook messages, emails etc are being looked at with a fine tooth comb. Did she keep a personal journal? Would she have brought that with her to the UK and left it there? Would she have an off-site backup of her important papers maybe with a trusted friend or a safety deposit box?

    Motive?

Maybe Danilo thought he didn't need her anymore.

I was wondering why now? Did Danilo think he would inherit her money/house if the body was never found.
How does inheritance work in the DR when next of kin is charged with murder. What happens now with her money
in the bank and the house/real estate?

Inheritance would be to a spouse and children. In this case, you posed a good question if the spouse is convicted and the victim had no children. Perhaps next of kin to the victim? In this case there is other family still alive from what I read.
