Are there any restrictions on owning CB (Citizen Band) radios or two way hand held radios in the DR.

If imported a set from the US (for personal use, not for sale) would I be breaking any laws by using them? Is it possible to buy them locally?

thanks
Stephen

Radio Equipment

Not sure about all radio equipment BUT to operate HAM (Amateur Radio) you must be licensed in your own country and then apply for a DR license to operate there. This requires a copy of your license, 2 photograghs, a small fee and lots of patience.
Hope this helps

For VHF radios there is a department which issues a licence but the majority of people who use this type of radio, those connected to Marine pursuits, do not seek licences.

Best scenario is having someone bring it in in their luggage. Otherwise: Ah senor, radio militar, ilegal etc.etc. They will steal it.

There are several vendors here

with cell phones these are falling out of favor, I think.
