It make you wonder who really did it? If it was the ruling party and though for a minute, they might be caught, it would be the end of their party. If the opposition did it, they have everything to gain unless they are caught.

Then again, maybe Occam's Razor is at work here.

Maybe the issue is simple incompetence.

After decades here, I would tend to agree. Although Leonel is the one who really benefits from the situation, it seems the JCE was totally danilista. And a hacking process is slightly far-fetched, too risky, too easy to get caught.

I agree, incompetence is much more likely here but they act as if they think they can get away with anything.

My bet is on incompetence too but why PLD was not affected at all?

Until there is a viable, merit-based civil service system in the Dominican Republic, these kinds of issues will occur in every area of gubmint.

This is the #1 embedded issue that holds the DR back from more quality advancements as a society.

The botella and caudillo political culture is societal rot.

I personally think it's because the tailor didn't have El Camo's gold-sequined victory suit ready.

IFS statement from today ( IFS = International Foundation for Electoral Systems )

It is important to note that the pre-electoral assessment that IFES undertook from January 20-29, 2020, at the request of the JCE and the urging of political parties focused on the auditability of the automated voting system and its ability to capture voter intent. IFES’ analysis did not involve an evaluation of the customization of the voting equipment, which includes the loading of the voter list and ballots on individual voting machines.

Who did the customization of the voting equipment and who audited that part becomes interesting
