Default 120 day Visa for Visitors

I hear that the DGM site now allows the purchase of extended stay visas - 120 days

They want the biometric page of your passport, your entry stamp & your return ticket

I expect they attach the extension to your passport.

    https://servicios.migracion.gob.do/

    2 offers

    30- 90 days = 2500 DOP

    90-120 days = 4000 DOP

It's true, it's true, it's true. Or at least it appears to be. 120 days is certainly better than only 30, but still misses the "snowbird" visa range of staying for up to 6 months.

This begs the question of what will now happen to people that overstay the 30 day tourist card now that they have this option.

Is this not the same as the exit fee fines for overstay. Why bother? Just pay the fine when you leave?

They have not yet gotten rid of the exit fee page for those who don't request ahead of time to stay up to 120 days legally. Keep in mind, this page is actually for people with residency that did not renew and need to pay overstay fees when renewing:

    https://www.migracion.gob.do/Menu/Index/21

Perhaps they never will. Or they may provide some incentive to pay up front.

Journey 466, one reason to pay up front for 120 days is that you are legally in the country for that period. Perhaps there will be more reasons.

Perhaps this is the precursor to not paying at the airport.....

    This is how you pay...

Witness residency renewals.... now done only online....

    Change.... automation

No way to know the further implications. But yes, it certainly is a change.

It appears to leave the over 120 day visitor in an awkward position.....

Perhaps that's the point - identify the chronic interlopers...
those who go beyond 'visitor' status

    Lest we forget --- residency
