I do feel uncomfortable when I join the chat and there is already a conversation in progress ... so I always ask if this is "private". Even when chatters say no the conversation is not private and yes I can stay ... I often get the sence that the topic they are discussing is not of a "general" nature and is somehow specific to them and I do feel like I am intruding.
I think it comes from my colonially imposed British discipline where as I child I was harsely reprimanded for interuping a coversation in progress. Even interupting after saying "excuse me" was frown upon, and reserved for situations like emergencies ... because you knew as a child that you were supposed to exercise patience and wait until the conversation ended. It's funny I don't think kids today are formally thaught this kind of stuff anymore.
So ... had I seen your message before I left the Board I would have joined you but unfortunately I turned the computer off for the night.
