It is about as far a you can be from the beach and still be in Boca Chica, though not on the highway like Joker.

Some people swear by it. They own a beach front bar adjacent to the Playa Vista bar and I think ( don't quote me) you can charge at the bar to the room etc. Anyway they provide the bar since they are so remote. Haven't seen the rooms, they do have a tennis court and nice grounds and a decent restaurant.

For non AI I would recommend the Costalunga or El Candil or on the beach Zapata for the additional proximity to town and in Zapata's case the beach itself.

On Duarte, the main drag there are several tourist info ( read: sell job) stands for the tours and things - I am sure they can set you up with what you want if it is available.

For the straight dope and pictures go to:

www.bocachicabeach.net and have a look at the Milannelli site within. Note it is Milanelli not Milanello.

My first time to BC, I stopped at this hotel as it was on my list as one of the better ones to look out for but I chose not to stay there. I didn't think the hotel, especially the rooms were worth what they were asking for. Also it's far from the beach and at night it seemed kind of secluded and I wouldn't feel comfortable walking back to it. Although on paper this hotel seemed like one of the better non-inclusive ones. Lucky our next stop was Costalunga and I didn't have to look any further.

On the web site mentioned earlier in this thread, there is a good description of what to expect. Select this property if the description is what you are looking for. It doesn't try to be something it isn't, and it does offer some characteristics that are unlike any other property in town. For example, it is the only property that is not all-inclusive that offers the feel of a resort by way of it's onsite restaurant, bar, pool, tennis courts, and landscaping.

You do pay more at this property compared to the smaller and simpler properties, and that is why for this to be a good deal, a resort feel set away from the main tourist drag needs to be one of your key selection criteria. One should select this property based on the outdoor experience, which is where it excels.

Costa Lunga provides a good middle road between a resort and a bare-bones motel, and between a beach-front proprety and one that is 6 blocks away. There are about 10 properties just like it in Boca Chica, offering similar location, price, quality and amenities.

Actually, the name is "Hotel Milanello". I too frequently incorrectly call it Milanelli and even on their own website they call it both Milaanello and Milanell.

Well Jim..

There's set away and then there's this place which for a lot of tourists is pretty remote and inconvenient to say nothing of a trifle spooky coming and going at night. Frankly for FAMILY activity you'd have to think Zapata is ideal since it is not so much dough and it is actually ON the beach.

Granted you don't want Ai and tennis is the name of the game then Milannelli/Milannelo (tomato/tomatoe) is a possible.

I think the average first time out of the AI tourist would be some chagrined by the location, though not so much as say the Joker.

6 blocks is 1 hotel in Punta Cana

That depends on if you think 6 blocks is far. The Joker is 6 blocks (1/2 mile) to the beach, Milanello about 5 blocks.

Zapata is on the beach, but the beach is pitch dark at night except in front of the Don Juan, and very dangerous. There have been many robberies. The tigres wait for tourists to show up with their girls trying to get a little action on the beach.

Zapata is good for the day, but it is just a hotel with a small restaurant and beach bar. No pool, and the property is only perhaps 50 feet by 100 feet of what amounts to sand and a few trees.

Milanello is located blocks away, but they have a building on the beach that is arguably the nicest property on the beach. It is included with your stay, that includes a restaurant, bar, shower, internet access, and jacuzzi. And the grounds of Milanello are the nicest non all-inclusive grounds in all of Boca Chica, and they have a pool, a must for many families. In Punta Cana, it can be 6 blocks just cross half way through a given hotel property.
