Hi All:

Looking for a high end property in Puerto Plata which is non All-Inclusive for my visit for the festival this year. Is it available? If not do you think it would be wise to stay at one of the high end properties in Santiago and commute. Or possibly in Sosua if one exists there or one of the other surrounding areas. Thanks in advance.

I have a friend that has a villa in Costambar that is high end and he rents by the week that is 5 minutes drive from the Malecon. Let me know if you want his number, I have it at home along with email.

However I am seeking more of a hotel where I can spend only a few nights. Sea horse is really impressive though.

Tha festival is November 7th - 10th according to Tourismo this morning. It might have changed by now or it might change by next week, these things happen in the DR, but I think the chances are pretty good for these dates.

Not high end, more 'comfortable' @ 2 (bordering on 3) star quality - try Puerto Plata Beach Resort Hotel & Casino ON the Malecon. US $27 per night gets you small apartment in hotel grounds (with swimming pool), Vicious A/c, cable & security. Cafes, restaurants are nearby & town is a 20 minute walk away (5 mins. on Moto-concho if you like living dangerously).

Have checked AGAIN with Turismo re dates of Merengue Festival as everyone was telling me OCTOBER!! NO, it is NOT October as this would clash with the Jazz Festival, so the dates have been changed (two weeks ago so no-one has heard about it yet) to 7th - 10th NOVEMBER!!!- Grahame.
