HB,

I dropped you 2 pm's over the last few days I was wondering if you have received them? I really could use your help in locating someone in Santiago for me I have been trying for months to locate this person and to no avail, I hope that you can help me out with this as it is very important to me.

Or if there perhaps someone else in the Santiago area that may be able to help me in locating a person it would be much appreciated, beer will be on me when I am next in Santiago.

Thanks, Isaac getting one step closer to running away to the Dominican Republic.

thanks,

Chris,

And for all others that are intersted I am seking to locate "yeah I know this sounds far out" my driver that took me around Santiago when I was last there. I promised him a new stereo for his car as he helped me above and beyond the call of duty when I was in Santiago. I have called all the numbers that he had given me and everyone claims that they have no knowledge of this person I have even sent mail to the DR only to have it returned 6 months later "undelivered". I really want to keep my word with this person because he really helped me out of a tough pickel.

Thanks, Isaac

Don't worry about keeping your word Isacc.

To survive in the DR you will have to become an inventive and proficient LIAR!Let me guess, your driver came up with the stereo "idea"? If you do find him, just say that his stereo was stolen in customs,or that your mother had to have an operation. They ALL understand that one!Just remember always lie, even when the truth is the obvious choice.Dominicans have a memory of about 30 to 45 seconds,so you can change your lie,or use it over and over again,it won't make any difference! It is OK to lie, even when the person you are lying to knows you are liying.Dominicans don' think of "Lying" as "Lying",it is just creative speech!Just like "Stealing" is not really "Stealing",it is just "Borrowing" with no intention of returning the item!It makes life very simple if you are never held responsible for your actions! Now you can come back! Chris I don't think that it is that easy.

Chris,

Let me tell you something this guy really helped me out,it appears that I was at the Casino don't remember which either
Matum or the other one in Santiago from what I was told I was winning a good amount on the 21 table. My only problem was that I was well as some Gringos just having too good of a time so between getting blasted and chasing the cocktail waitrees around I entrusted my chips to what at the time seemed liked a nice, trustworthy stranger. This creep lost a good amount of my dough and stole the rest in the process I lost my wallet as well, one good point was that after I my driver told me what happen I had the pleasure and assistance of security in throwing this guy out of the front doors of the Casino. Needless to say this was just the beginning of my troubles I was due to leave the following day however I had no cash,t.cheques or anything else, plus I had to pay my hotel bill. After contacting my family they paid the hotel and I was off to Santo Domingo this guy drove me from Santiago to SD to the American Embassy, to American Express, and onto Western Union, although I had missed my flight that day he made sure that I found a good palce to stay in SD and spent a good portion of the day aking sure that I had everything that I needed.
I paid the guy only $100.00 for his services as he told me that was sufficient however I knew that the cost was more for all of the time and effort that he put in. I asked him if there was anything else that I could do for him and he said that he would like a stereo for his car from the States,so I told him why not just buy one here but to him it was not the same as a stereo from the States even though I tried to convince him that most likely the stereos in the DR come from the States anyway. At any rate this guy could just have easily stolen my laptop on numerous occassions which he did not. So I am very eager to keep my word
and make good on my promise that is why I was wondering if anyone could help me in locating this person?

Wow Isaac.....they say you coming....and so will your future 'wife' if you don't get with the game.

Foreigners promise stuff to Dominicans all the time, and for the most part I believe it never happens - and vice-versa! Just the fact that you want to follow up on yours is enough. You paid the driver handsomely for his day's work.

Cris is right.....I've heard the 'my mother needs an operation' scam so many times, why not try it? And why would anyone trust their cash to someone else - I don't care what country/city/situation.......

My God Isacc what is wrong with you?

You better get yourself a "Babysitter" when you are here! This can be a dangerous place for a man who flashes too much cash, gets drunk, and trusts "strangers'!If you want to survive here you better be tough. The "Types" who hang around Casinos,Bars,"Casas De Cita" and the like can smell blood! Please be a little less trusting, and a lot more careful!! CRISCO

Cris-my point exactly!

I have visited many times - some alone some with friends and have never ever had something rally bad happen....and it well could-me being a chica rubia and all. Streetsmarts are very very necessary home or away.

Isaac - please heed Cris' warning! He's 100% right about the smell of blood - and that goes for both males and females that you will meet........

I take your warnings seriously.

Yeah guys the clarity of sobriety can be a many wonderful thing.

You all are right I must have put a hit on my common sense, after that episode in the Casino I have sworn off alcohol lest I ever wish to find myself in a terrible situation again. I will most certainy do things a lot differently the next time I visit. However I am rather amazed that nothing more serious happened I was really bombed, I guess it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if my hotel bill was not paid, well no it would not have been interesting. I suppose that common sense and good judgement must always travel with me whether in the DR or not.

Thanks for the advice.
