Having read "In the Time of the Butterflies" (Which truthfully I did not enjoy the "Diary type" reading) and just finished the Before We were Free (I highly recommend this book) , it is rewarding to see Alvarez recive just recognition

I haven't gotten her latest. She is good.

Noticed that an old student of ours here in Santiago, Pedro Jos? Greer in the Chairman of the Foundation...pretty cool...

Congratulations, Julia...

Janice,
You should try Alvarez's collection of interlinked short stories "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents." It reads easily, is a wonderful depiction of how life in the US was for the Dominicans who fleed the DR during the 1960s, and is semi-autobiographical. I highly recommend it.
Best Regards,
Keith

FYI, Ricky got his award for humanitarian work with kids in India - not for his artistic genius.
