Should be a very interesting tour, but the price seems to limit participation to a select group.

This tour is for those that really want to get to know the Colonial City and appreciate access to locations and knowledge that they wouldn't normally have.

Expensive compared to what? A tour of the Colonial City at this level and quality does not exist.

When you have locals wanting to buy tickets, then you know your doing something right ;)

This tour is not really aimed at the casual tourist.
Saying that, we guarantee it will be the highlight of their vacation.

This is for those that want to get inside, learn, touch and feel the Colonial City at a level that is not normally accessible.

If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to email us.

Robert,
Tour looks very interesting but I was surprised to see the $150.00 price tag on the bottom of the page.I have never heard of a one day tour anywhere costing that much.On the other hand,I am sure that if you are very interested in History and architeture it would be worth the money.Just seems pricey considering how far money goes in the DR in general.

If you think this is expensive for a small group, exclusive and unique tour, I suggest you travel globally more often, this is cheap!

How many tours and what type have you taken in the DR?

The first thing you need to do is throw out the window the concept you have of DR tours. Nothing like this exists here.
If it does, please let me know, we have never heard of it.

I suggest you read the page again.

It doesn't compare, trust me...

Sounds like a hefty price. Disneyland in Tokyo doesn't cost that much for 2 people including a stop at the curry rice stand.
I would assume that part of that price goes toward the upkeep, maintenance and restoration of the area...
The historical value is priceless.

How much would Disneyland in Tokyo cost if they let in only 6 people per day, provided a 1st class gourmet lunch, world renowned expert as a guide and access to areas the public never see?
You need to put it into perspective.

Would you pay US$300/day to go bird watching or shell collecting in the DR?
Yet we have small groups that do this here and are booked up months in advance. It all depends on what you want to get out of it and how high you value the experience.

If the tour was "doable" with a large group, of course the price would be lower. That's not possible and not what it's about. This is for those that want to get inside, learn, touch and feel the Colonial City at a level that is not normally accessible. Yes, that comes at a price like everything else on the planet.

And your right, the historical value and knowledge gained is priceless...

;)

it's not the $150, it's the souvenir t-shirts, saran-wapped sugar cane, and the like that we'll be expected to buy at each stop.

seriously, if i didn't travel with 2 kids, and was going to be in RD on any of those dates i would have signed up all ready. this is, after all, one of UNESCO's world heritage sites that is being toured.

Good luck with the venture. One advantage I see right away is you are using a guide who, unlike most of the other I see around the Colonial Zone, doesn't appear to be an alumnae of Riker's Island.

Colonial Tour

I think the price is fine. Most decent meals in the Zona Colonial cost around that anyway. This excursion appears to have the added bonus of an educated tour.

Add a few cocktails, a decent dinner, some after dinner theatre and a bit of nightclubbing and you'll be up to $250 - $300 US per person.
Anyone who thinks this is too expensive should travel with us sometime!
I'll get back to you Rob when I get home. We have friends coming down in Feb. who may be interested. Just need to find two more people to "round out" the group to 6 or would you make up the 2 extra needed???

The group is a max of 6 people. These will made up on a first come first serve basis. We are not expecting people to come up with their own group of six people, although that would be nice and make life easier for us :)

You can book individually, as a couple, however...

You're right. Tokyo Disney couldn't stay open for US$900 a day.

The archaeologist in me would appreciate it especially if the tour was given by Ivor Noel Hume.

Preservation of valuable artefacts costs a lot of money. I'd like to know some of my money was going towards restoring the place for future generations to enjoy.

It'll be a great experience.

I think it is a ? exelent price for what you are offering, remember folks many of you spend more than this on the culturaly enriching casinos of Santo Domingo, and as Drake said agood meal can easily cost that and more, keep on coming up with these great tours there are some people who appreciete more in life than jeep safaries

Should one bring a notebook?
Julia will provide info sheets, but it might be handy to jot down a few notes.

Is the person running the tour the same one that edits this board (Vicioso) sp?
No. It's her sister.

JOHNNY HONDA.
For this type and quality of tour it's very good value for money.
Yes, we have other stuff in the works, we are trying to take it to another level. More focused to those that want to leave the DR with a very memorable and educational experience as apposed to just a sun tan.
