First Pepegate, now maybe the Presidencia has "plumbers" - Leonel burglarized

Could this be an attempt to "even the playing field" with some dirt dug up during the burglary.

Maybe I've been reading too much Dominican political reporting. Time will tell...

This caper is all science fiction. Everyone is talking about this being a diversion to take pressure away from Pepegate.

The chief of the Armed Forces has called Fernandez chief of security Colonel Aquino for investigation and he blames the military security for the failure. It was reported that the security was reduced due to budget cuts. But that apartment complex as of yesterday was one of the most heavily guarded towers in the city. This place is like Fort Knox. The doors were not broken. The "burglar" had to have keys.

How can you explain this in a place where every tenant is a multimillionaire. This is the same place where Ramon Baez Figueroa, Baninter owner lives(The man who owns half of the Pepegate leadership)Some members of the Hache family live there, so does Dr. Milton Messina and Real estate mogul Diandino Pe?a, who built the tower himself. Even if you take away Leonel,s guards, you have enough firepower there to invade Haiti.

The excuse that this is a deal to hurt Hippo does not make sense, or that this is a plan to hurt Leonel. No sir!! This is the kind of stuff that is used to hide something bigger, like Pepegate, which will not go away now.

Notice that even the PRD senators are trying to divert the attention of Pepegate by having big mouth Morel Cerda, the Electoral Board Chief make some insensitive statements("the deal to break up the board is unconstitutional and it will make me a rubber stamp president") by orders of Hippo himself, and the senators created a big stir by stating that they are planning to amend the constitution again, and will not vote for the "Dialogo Nacional" deal if the PRD counteroffer is not approved. This is all a smokescreen. Hippo needs a breather with the Iberoamerican Summit. All eyes and ears are on him and the DR. Any scandal would be fatal.

the latest on this

What I considered a Fort Knox is no longer that anymore. Recent cuts by Hippo and Soto Jimenez on security forces have taken their toll on the Leonel security detail. He used to have permanently 6 military people guarding, not including Colonel Aquino. Two guards were posted always in the front with power weaponry.

Today there are only two guarding the entire building, which is too large for 2 men. The private guards that were once part of that building were retired because of conflicts with Leonel*s contingent in terms of arrangements. The other owners have not demanded additional security then or even now.

In addition, Ramon Baez Figueroa no longer lives there. When power changed hands, he saw no longer need to stay close to Fernandez, I guess? He is now seen with Hippo hanging around. Baninter*s chief is a glory and publicity seeker and wastes no time to get in the act.

The "burglar" apparently jumped from Leonel*s apartment thru a window into the third floor thru the front of the building with a computer in hand!!! Being that he was given chase, he abandoned the computer in Milton Messina*s apartment with the diskettes intact. He broke into other areas too.

What is amazing is that Leonel*s apartment, specially his bedroom, where the man got to, was full of expensive valuables, but were untouched. All his clothes were ransacked. Yet he just took the labtop.
